I hope you're not using the same principle as me ... wearing a yellow jumper to cover your belly as I'd wear brown trousers for different reasons :)

Not a bad day at Cadwell yesterday. 3 no-shows on the day (why???) and possibly the hottest I have ever seen at Cadders. The biggest problem is finding some shade as there are no pit garages.

Alex and I rocked up just in time for the instructor briefing at 8.15 followed by the 8.30 safety briefing. Being the trackday gods that we are neither of us had remembered to bring a tyre pressure gauge or pump for that matter. Anyway, luggage thrown off the bikes, 9am and we were out with our groups to do some led laps.

After the first session, with some time to spare, I took some air out my tyres with some guesswork as they were hot already. Having checked them this morning cold they were 30f 34r. The M7RRs worked very well in the conditions at those pressures with very clean wear across the treads both front and back. Only problem was increased TC intervention on the rear later on in the day. I thought these tyres were nearly at the end of their life when I set off on Sunday morning but looking at them today they still have a mm or two of legal tread left which knowing these would last most of the summer. Nonetheless Rosso3s are going on next week.

I did a couple of sessions before lunch with some inters/novice riders just to help them understand the lines, gain confidence, and ultimately gain speed. Cadwell is not easy to ride slowly even though that may sound odd. The feedback was positive with some big grins which is always nice to see.

The heat played its role, it was baking. No breeze to speak of but unreleting heat from the sun. We hid in the back of bins' van (thanks Robert, not that we asked lol). I think I drank at least 8 litres of water and didn't need to relieve myself all day, it was hard keeping hydrated. I think that told the tale of the day because as the final sessions went out the red flags made their appearance and I decided to call it a day and miss the last time out.

Although there was the usual traffic I did get a couple of good sessions where I was riding for myself. The penultimate session of the day was the best with little traffic to hinder progress and multiple laps at 1:55/1:56, with a couple of 1:54's mixed in. That was 5 seconds faster than where I was at the start of the day with each session getting a bit quicker. I certainly have found a lot more pace around Cadders on this visit and had my body and mind been up to it, more grip, less bikes, I dont think something around 1:50 is unachievable. I'd be happy with that. My best last year was a 1:58.

As for Alex, I hope he doesn't mind me saying but his riding has really improved from where he was last year. I spent a couple of laps following him and the boy done well.

Next TD is Snetterton in August.

Cadwell Park

I'm glad you had a good day and your lap times progressed. My fastest time around Cadwell Park this season has been a 1:40.58; albeit I was using race compounds so that's a good effort on road tyres.

You're probably carry a **** load of speed in to coppice then. Any idea what speed? And which gear you use? Appreciate you use 16/44...

Lap one appears to be 110-115 range.
Good to know I think I was edging towards 95-100 I'll check the data later.

I can't make sense of my aim data at all so whatever you do Alex plus 10% is fine for me lol. ;)

When I get the chance I will check my data from Cadwell Park for you and also my circuit notes regarding gear selection for each corner.

Re: Cadwell Park

Should have checked if there was anyone from here going. What a great day again. Having never done cadwell before i took the advantage of following an instructor. The rest of my initial group in inters were happy to go alone after the first session so I had one to one for another 3-4 sessions which was a massive help. This is what makes it such good value. Safely getting quicker and quicker before doing the last 3 sessions on my own.

The break seemed to cause a drop in concentration and therefore a few stoppages in the afternoon sessions which was a shame but still got to get the throttle to the stops and plenty of lean angle which gave such a massive buzz.

Another successful day so thanks to bins and my instructor for making it so much fun.

Good to meet you Andy and see you again Alex. Nice to see your new bike in the flesh too!

It was my first time at Cadwell and I have to admit I really enjoyed it, I've only ever ridden at Snetterton before so it was a real experience to try something so different.
I was running the HP datalogger on my R and reviewed the laps last night. I rarely got a clear lap in the cautious group, but where I did I managed to get a 2.08.67 which I was fairly happy with for a first attempt at the circuit.
I also (by accident more than skill) managed to get a "best lap" through splitting the track into sectors on the logger screen and putting all the fastest sectors together gave me a 1.59.88 which I was very surprised by.

So all in all for me, a great circuit, great company and excellently run as always by Rob and his team. Looking forward to Snetterton in August now, hopefully see a few of you there :)

Good to see you again.

A few clear laps and I'm sure you'd have been <2:03 which would have been enough for the fast group IMO. So no worries on speed there :) Shouldn't have doubted yourself and gone straight to Inters ;)

Finally looked at my data. I got a 1:55:82 in there which wasn't too shabby. My perfect lap on the day was a 1:54:25. Managed a whole 50deg's without falling off! :)

That's better than you thought, well done :). The datalogger software looks so much more user friendly than the aim stuff. I feel as though I need a degree to work it out. Might be changing...

edit. I will post my times tomorrow from the laptop.

Video from my bike with Soof following me. You can count the seconds...but I make it a 1:59 followed by a 1:57....so the only laps that look like that are the 2nd and 3rd, 1:59:12 and 1:56:97. The data logger was emptied after session 2 so this would have been session 3...which makes sense.

This is a comparison of the two laps over time. (So you can see where the 1:56 lap pulls time on the 1:59.

The last session (last 9 laps) I did was the best overall consistent lapping without much traffic.

I think times/laps 4 & 5 are the ones related to your vid?

Cadwell Park

Anything below 1:45 is considered quick around Cadwell Park and lap times between 1:33-40 is fast and on MRO/SSTK pace. There are also those in the sub-1:30 club, but to get in that bracket requires a lot of talent and you have to leave all self-preservation in the paddock area. To make up time you have to be aggressive and get on the throttle much earlier and keep on it for longer than you think. Carrying speed up through T1 (Coppice) is absolutely essential as it sets you up well for the remainder of Sector 1 and into Sector 2. Losing time in either of these sectors will ultimately mean a slow lap time. Most people also lose loads of time going over The Mountain as they either back off the throttle completely or carry too much forward momentum and lift the front too high, or indeed both wheels, off the tarmac and then struggle to compose the bike and set themselves up properly for a fast entry into Hall Bends. Cadwell Park takes a lot of laps and confidence in the front end to get right. A clear track and good weather also helps.
