Shame you can't make it Keith, maybe next time mate.
Hoping for another good day out on the bike.

@phil
My bike has developed an electrical issue, am hoping to get the bike taken to Cannon BMW today and with a bit of luck I could collect on Saturday.
Due to the problem I'm afraid I'll need demoting from a "definitely" to a "possible" ... fingers crossed!

Symptoms, turn ignition on, fuel pump doesn't seem to prime, the dash goes trough its boot up but there is a DDC error message. Brake lights don't work, twist the throttle or press the starter and there's a "sucking/ticking" type of sound but the engine doesn't turn over. Also, the dash backlight flickers as if going from light to dark to light.

Have checked battery terminals, which were rock solid, and I would be very surprised if the battery is low as I went for a ride a few days ago and the bike gets regular use. The bike has always started immediately, first time, every time too.

Any ideas guys? Am hoping it's not a chaffed wire in the loom ...

Oli

Thanks guys, sorry for my delayed reply I've been with BMW roadside assistance and then at Cannon's BMW.

Good news is, all sorted, it was the battery terminals which had furred up too much and were preventing the battery from charging properly ...
The terminals have been cleaned and I've been for a short ride and all seems fine.
Will go for a longer ride tomorrow to get more charge back in the battery, and am considering replacing it as a precaution (the voltage is a tad low when the bike is running).

Unless anything untoward happens I shall definitely be joining you all on Sunday.

Cheers guys,

Oli

Thanks Jay, yea I do have heated grips however I haven't used them for quite a while and I have the larger BMW battery (the one they fit for bikes with alarms).
So I don't imagine it's the battery going flat from being excessively drained, perhaps more to do with the furred connection and thus the battery wasn't able to recharge whilst riding.

Re replacing the battery, to be honest I'm trying to find an excuse to justify myself buying a big Lithium battery lol ...

Thanks again for your help, look forward to meeting you on Sunday!

Oli

Good news that it's all sorted, might see you out on the road tmrw then.. if not then see you Sunday.

Thanks Phil, fingers crossed no more problems.

Yea might well do, roughly where are you heading tomorrow?

Sorry Oli, I have only just got in from my ride. I checked out the 2nd part of the route for Sunday.. I had to ride around a couple of diversions.

No worries Phil, I hope you had a good ride despite the diversions?
