Cheers Soof.. I struggled to get the cover off so left it in place, had text/called Jimmy as I knew he had done exactly same to Malics but I couldnt get a hold of him, I was wanting to know if the cover simply popped off or if the black part of the cover had to removed separately. The bolts came out no bother but the cover was pretty solid and I didnt want to force it, I was thinking it was the gasket silicone holding the mating surfaces together but wanted to check.. Any advice would be great.

Hi Stuart, sorry I missed you. It will be held in with the gasket sealing it in place. If it is not leaking don't remove it, just change the bolts one by one and tighten them to the right values.

Some images from start to finish. That engine cover is machined to very close tolerances. I used a credit card to separate the joints, then carefully prised the surfaces apart with a plain driver.

Cleaned both surfaces thoroughly then applied gasket seal (clear) from Halfords to the cover.

Replaced and tightened up diagonally as you would a head/rocker gear.

My torque wrench doesnt reach below 5nm so nipped up by hand.

All good..

RR it was that tight I had visions of .... pulling and levering then boing !.. springs and all sorts of **** flying out... thankfully its level 2 meccano and nothing to fear... there is a thrust washer I should have added. It sits on the I think Crank shaft primary drive..
