I put retired and premium was better.
^^.....more time to ride & damage it, or more time to watch over it? why can't insurance underwriters provide the logic behind the calculations (i understand its a wealth of data, but its easily summarised)......may help all consumers, though it will hit their profits - but they could align with manufacturers as this will support e.g. bmw sales.

Perennial issue. London is much worse, it’s almost impossible to get insurance on a BMW if it’s not in a locked garage because I was told by bmw 50% of new ones are stolen in first year.
---
I register and insure all my bikes at my second home in Somerset with Carole Nash in a locked garage - no problem with two addresses. But I only insure 2 road bikes not the RR which is track only. Also I take the highest excess. Half my bikes are historic which have v low premiums, that doesn’t help you.
---
The one thing I didn’t pick up form the thread was motoring convictions - obvs they will load the premium.
---
A mate in London couldn’t insure his second bike and had to sell it. He built a lock up in his front drive for his GS - not a full garage, a steel unit. Might be worth considering.
---
The other tip - never make any claims unless for catastrophic loss. Not worth it in current environment.
^^
~as its 2020 thought stealibility factor would be lower. maybe not.
~2nd address is an option for storage
~no convictions, no accidents, never claimed - bike / car
~renting in bucks at present - the private apartment car park is secure & has electric gate but this has no impact (treated as driveway)
~agree re this - need to adjust when i get back on the phone tmrw
They usually ask if the garage is of brick construction. Not sure what they will say to steel unit.
yep another oddity - i mean, i am not an engineer, but both I think are reasonably stable & secure construction materials (as are multiple other materials).

insurance industry needs a massive overhaul, imo.

Forgot to add - I did 2 levels of california superbike school and thought it was excellent on safety and control. Alas not recognised for insurance purposes, but wondering if any of the listed are. Again, why they are not transparent over key inputs really is scammy.
