I saw a clip of someone firing up the new blade at one of the bike shows and it was spitting out blue smoke??! ......surely this new one doesn't burn oil like a two stroke too??! I couldn't leave home on my '14 Blade without carrying a bottle of oil!! :fatigue:[/

Jap crap Cavey :) looks like you're going to have to stick with the S thou!

My 2013 blade hardly used any oil or smoked on start up,won't be swapping my gen 3 for a new blade anytime soon tho,bmw so much better built and no stupid clips or hidden screws when removing fairings.

Looks like Honda listened to the complaints about the hidden clips, the new blade has bolts holding the fairings on.
not convinced the BMW is better built, certainly seem to have more problems than the Honda's

I get the distinct impression you're going to be riding a Fireblade soon Gaffa! I'm interested to see where they pitch the pricing of the base and SP models v the S1k - which while not cheap offers an immense amount of tech and capability for the money v the current competition.

No I dont think so Mac I've had a few Fireblades, but found the 2017 model a little disappointing, I'll be road testing the new GSXR , ZX10R and the blade before I make my decision

I think the SP will be around the same price as the S1KRR sport. It's listed at $28,500 Australian dollars which works out at ?16,700.

I assume form current competition you are excluding the 2017 models, then yes I agree, and it will be very interesting to see where they pitch the prices of all the new 2017 models in comparison with the S1K

Yep, I've ridden a 1299s with active Ohlins - assume its the same as that on the SP blade(?) and yes its very good but on the road no different to DDC plus the S1k has on paper more power and gadgets so for me the SP will need to be keenly priced to attract buyers away from BMW. As for the Gixxer, the spec suggests the R is more aligned to the base model blade and ZX10 - nothing wrong with that but it is less bike than the S1K. My local Honda dealer doesn't know when prices will be confirmed and won't be getting a demo in until late Feb / early March. Should be interesting to blag a go on these new bikes in the Spring..

The SP1 is ruled out for me anyway as you cannot fit a pillion seat. Honda have fitted a lighter rear sub frame to the SP that is not strong enough for a pillion.

Really? How stupid is that for what is after all a road bike. My missus really enjoys riding pillion on the S1k - more so than on my GSA(!), having a grab rail fitted makes all the difference, the only other current litre sports bike that you can also buy a grab rail for is the ZX10, which I like but doesn't match my BMW.

Yes but daft not to offer the option as the S1K, R1M & 1299s can all carry pillions if required which as Gaffa points out rules out the SP blade for those of us wanting high spec bikes with the ability to carry a passenger for no good reason

I know mate, its the apparent lack of market insight by the Jap manufacturers at least for the UK that frustrates me, the Sthou sells very well as it meets many riders needs, why go to the effort of developing a new blade and then not offer options to make it as excellent as a road bike as I assume it will be on track

One of the guy's on a stand at the NEC said I was mad even considering talking a pillion on a 200 bhp sports bike ,( I think it was the Kawasaki stand) I replied that you did not have to use all 200 bhp and that my wife is an excellent pillion passenger, so why the hell not !!

Guys an idiot Gaffa... my youngest is a fantastic pillion. Im two up with her a lot in good weather... wtf has a passenger got to do with bhp.

My thoughts exactly Stuart.

We sat on all the bikes at the show, from a pillion point of view, Tracy found the ZX10 the most comfy followed by the GSXR.
