Its a bigger issue than I had expected having read the reports on the air quality across much of England this week.

I have wondered about how much crap I must breathe in when I'm on the bike as there is little by way of filters between me and the air coming into the helmet.

What do you guys think / do about it?

What is there to do, the only solution would be to wear some kind of particulate mask. That wouldn't be fun at all, especially as we live for dry warm days.
Or wear a astronaut style helmet with filtering built in.

It's something that crosses my mind regularly particularly as I do a lot of driving as well as bike riding, I'm sure it must be a driver of a number of health issues in modern society. Not a lot the individual can do I guess and unfortunately no room for a 3M/ Michael Jackson mask inside my Shark lid!

I got the solution. [emoji12]

My welding mask has a fresh air system, something similar wouldn't be a bad idea, help keep you cool in the summer too.

I always have my mouth and nose covered by a balaclava, purely for warmth, if it get through that I'm no that bothered, you can worry too much. As long as insects can't get inside me I'm fine.

I looked into doing this when I livened in London in 2012-2013. Seemed too much hassle though but now its kicked off again because of the NO gasses from diesels.

Ride petrol bikes instead!

The pollution levels across much of England yesterday triggered a warning that outdoor strenuous activity/exercise was not advised, not that I do a great deal of that.

I notice the bad air on commutes. I'm using the M1 and A1 for several junctions and when the traffic is heavy I'm basically sitting in a slipstream of Nox gasses for about an hour.

I wouldn't want to do that, I understand your concerns Soof.

It never bothers me, I very rarely ride in town or on M/ways during busy periods, but, I do work near a main road and probably suffer more from that than when riding my bike.
