Thanks to a pillion ride from Surrey to Central London riding bitch with Helrazzer, I am now wanting to part from my 19 year old Fireblade (still want to keep her) and get a BMW.... So thought I would come in and say hello.... I am on the lookout for a S1000rr..... Would appreciate a few pointers and advice....

hope me to own one between my legs and meet up with you soon...

Oh oh I live in Carshalton, Surrey.

Welcome along Imortal_Indian. A 19y/o Blade to a S1000RR is quite the technological leap!

I'd pop down to Bahnstormers or Park Lane and start testing some out.

Cheers Alex, already been on the DOG AND BONE to Park Lane.... its all lined up... just waiting for a reasonable day to go and play...

So, would a S1000rr be suitable every day for a 25 miles round trip from Surrey to central London....

I currently do this on my 19 year old fireblade and love it.... albeit the turning circle is not great for filtering, but i hold my own.... I just want to ride rather than public transport...

I commute in central London on an RR. No issues - but I don't kamikaze like the scooters.

The only issue is, it getting nicked.

Yes, tell me about the scooters and the cyclists that appear out of nowhere when the lights turn amber...

I have only every seen 2 RR's doing what looked like a commute.... one was just about to pass Borough Market and the other was parked in my work car-park, I only saw it the once and never saw the rider to ask...

what about heat from the bike when at slow speed / summer in the traffic?

An alarm and tracker is what the 1st monies will be spent on !!

The frame spars get warm but it's not like a Ducati. I usually wear Kevlar Jeans for commuting. Clutch work is where I get tired. But that's a case of getting used to it - stronger hands.

Didn't help me! Get a massive Almax chain, and carry it with you (don't leave it overnight where it can be tampered with).

I commute daily on mine. Well, I did anyway.... Best mod? Nothing to do with the bike- get a Reevu helmet and remove the mirrors. You can get through tiny gaps and you can always see exactly what's behind you, including directly behind. Best riding purchase I've ever made.
