Went out on the bike today without the heated grips turned on (megger weather). I have noticed the engine rattle (which is common on all th 15's) is leaving my ears. No doubt the gaps in the valve train are closing.

Hi all. Just a bit of background info before I move on to my observations about my new beemer. I bought the bike in early November this year from Allan Jefferies of Baildon. It was an ex demo model, registered in September (2 months old) with 500 miles on the clock. When I got it home I started to personalise it as you do. When fitting a radiator guard, having removed the fairing to do this, I noticed that the front section of the fairing (the V piece) had a lower lug broken off on the clutch lever side. Now strangely, my bike came with a passenger seat and footrests. I ordered the seat cover thingy from them and left them the spare key. Later on they received the seat cover, made the key I left them fit the new lock. They then forwarded it to me, in a couple of days for fitting. When I fitted the seat cover I then removed the passenger foot rests. One of the bolts on the clutch lever side was very tight as I unscrewed it. I looked into the hole in the subframe to find the cause of this tightness only to find that the bolt had been cross threaded. Luckily I had a tap of the correct size and reclaimed the thread which enabled me to fit the little alloy blanking plugs without damaging them. I then noticed that the red painted line on the front wheel rim was missing about 12 inches of paint, again on the clutch lever side (Spooky) The paint at this point was very easy to remove using my finger nail! I contacted them with this list of problems and they were very good about it and told me that they would collect the bike and not to worry about it as it would all get sorted. Only problem was they couldn't collect it for a week or so. So I made a temporary repair to the fairing, put it all back together and rode the bike as much as I could, weather permitting. After 150 miles or so I started to feel a clunking noise from the front whilst braking. I thought to myself "if I didn't know better I would swear that it was play in the steering head bearings!" I got back home, checked the bike out, only to discover the clunking was indeed the head bearings! ! rang them up again and told them of this latest issue. They were very apologetic and again told me not to worry. To cut a long story short, they picked the bike up and returned it to me in a few days with a new front wheel, new subframe and a new fairing V piece. They adjusted the head bearings without so much as a mark to any of the soft alloy? bits fixing the top yoke to the forks etc. I know this shouldn't have happened, but it did. The fairing was probably broken during the 500 mile service (these bits are so brittle and easy to damage as I'm sure people on here have found out) The footrest problem was probably caused by someone in the sales dept I would think, trying to please a test rider with a passenger perhaps? The paint missing from the wheel? Probably the bike cleaner got a bit too close with a pressure washer perhaps? I'm pretty sure the head bearing thing developed during the few hundred miles I rode it. I know several members on here have had the same...... All in all I'm happy that the dealer looked after me and did a proper job and didn't try to fob me off........More to follow.

I am however, liking the bike more and more with each ride. The S1000 is an amazing ride and far exceeds my expectations.

That bloody Rear hugger........I've had enough, so I've added some clear plastic 3M film as used in paint protection scheme's. Why the hell BMW designed it like this beats the hell outa me. No its not there to give clearance to the ABS unit!!! Just needs 1mm of plastic to fill it in... Look at the swing arm ffs, it's been shot blasted by the rear tyre through the hugger hole.

And while i'm at it, my knee's (I'm 5'8") are wearing away the plastic panels. Crap when you think I've covered 3000 miles.....

Stompgrips

Fitting the lower Stompgrips that come supplied in the packet certainly helps with protecting the paintwork; especially when gripping the tank/side panels with your knees.

Yes agreed, I need the lower Stomp.

i'd like to fit them to mine (current and previous bikes) but i cant bring myself to stick what looks like my nanny's anti-slip bath mat :congratulatory:

Good ide for the huger though, ill do something similar to mine, Cheers

My Rad has taken a hit from Almeria (left hand side bottom in photo). Mind you so did the right foot peg lol

I noticed it seems noisier than my blade
and yes i get vibrations from 4 to 5k but there unimportant because the bike is awesome
my blade was quieter and less vibration ,but who cares once u open that throttle -)

Cheers chaps. If you listen very carefully you can here the power go off just before it goes. Now I wreken that may be the traction control backing the throttle off as a decrease in speed of the front wheel has been realised. It felt a whole lot worse than the video suggests.
There were a couple of club racers there on BMW's who thought I were nuts doing those lean angles on SP's. I were only rounding off squared tyres from road riding.........so I thought lol.

That was a nice save!

Thinking about the throttle backing off, wouldn't it cause the front tyre to load up more and further reduce traction?

Yes i noticed the chain adjuster issue
but seems loads of adjustment
maybe it is because u can shorten bike for track use ,but to be honest i dont know
