Not sure I understand the question - but - this is what I used to do with my Gen 3. In Rain mode you could go into the DDC settings and adjust it between plus 8 and minus 8 (a range of 16). I used to have my bike set really soft in Rain mode (-4 or so from memory - front and back). Then in Road mode I set the DDC to plus 4. If I was on a back road with pot holes and broken surface I switched it to Rain mode. It was GSA comfort like. Once I was back on a decent road surface I put it in Road mode and the suspension firmed up. Doing this you could set the suspension individually for Rain, Road and Sport. As a road bike it worked perfectly for me.

You can't do any of that with a Gen 4. You are only allowed access to the DDC settings once the bike is switched to Track Pro mode which disables various road functions of the bike (media, navigation, cruise control I think). It assumes you are on track. As a road bike, in my opinion, its a massive drop off.

Understand...

Been having a play with suspension settings today. I'm also out of preload. I'm borderline ok on the back but miles out on the front.
Also annoyingly is there's no rebound adjustment on the front at all :bull_head:

You can set rebound and compression on the front if you fit the 2d potentiometer.

The 2D potentiometer, and Gen 4 mounting bracket, should be available from alpha Racing towards the end of this month or early February.

I've not come across one of those. This is my first beemer. How does that work ?

The 2D potentiometer plugs directly into the OEM wiring loom and allows you to separate the rebound and compression stages of the front suspension.

There is rebound adjustment on the front, it's just tied in with the compression setting. Not ideal, but there is adjustment of sorts.

My Gen 3 was the same.............. softer springs, modified preload tube and a bigger air gap - via MCT - gave a lot more adjustment and feel for the front end.

Theres a guy selling a 2d unit on fb but you would need to modify the fitting bracket to fit the gen4 stanchion.

The OEM default is just displayed as DAMPING - a combination of both compression and rebound. By fitting a 2D potentiometer it separates the two allowing you to set up the front suspension properly. That’s notwithstanding the issues surrounding setting up preload.

Without the sensor the bike uses an algorithm to adjust front comp and reb together based on the general setting/mode you have selected. The sensor unlocks the ability to set both parameters independently. I had one on the hp4 and it made a significant difference to the feel on the front and imo made the ddc altogether better. Havent fitted one to the new bike as I have not found the need to (yet).

Does anybody know where the front forks bottom out? So, when the forks are fully compressed, how much of a gap is there between the dust seal and the axle casting?

Hello!
I have 6mm on some tracks and still feels good no problem. Front can go in certain places on the track so down.
Last 20mm is very progressive and makes front tyre wear out quickly.

So, you've gone as far as only having 6mm gap and think there might be a bit more to go? Presumably you've used something like a zip tie to record the travel?
