Rich has got back to me and can fit me in end of Feb/start or March which is perfect so away we go. SO......which lid to buy? Arai RX-7 or Shoei X-Spirit 3 hmmnn

Helmets

I would strongly advise that you try on both the Arai and Shoei helmets before you buy as the fit is completely different from one another. If you are getting it painted then make sure that you buy one of the cheaper, plain coloured versions as this will save you money.

I fell out with my RX 7V. I recommend borrowing one that fits you and using it on the road...for me it was draughty and noisy... excellent ventilation and what should be a trick visor system.... bought a new lid which I luuuuuv. Try properly before you buy

Re: Helmets

Oh for sure. I know that both Arai and Shoei fit my head and have had a few RX7s and one X-Spirit. Deffo a try before you buy job. I am tempted by another Arai now that they have updated the side pod mechanism. Every Arai I have ever had eventually had the little lugs break off a sidepod. I am kind of hoping thats a thing of the past now. Thanks for putting me onto Rich too. One of my Arai's was the Leon Haslam Heaven/Hell one which was one of my favourite lids ever.

Arai

The only other piece of advice that I would offer regarding Arai, having raced in them for years, is that they have changed the fit and shell shape on the new RX-7V. The fit is very different to the previous RX-7GP, and older Corsair models, so definitely make sure that you try one on first. Expect it to be noisy as it is a race helmet designed for track use and not for touring. A top tip if you buy the Arai is also purchase a spare set of side pods. If you send them to Rich-Art Concepts together with the helmet he will paint them as well so that you have a spare set. If you don't, and they subsequently break, you will need to send the entire helmet back to him so he can make sure that the paint and design on the side pods match the rest of the helmet exactly.

Re: Arai

Thats a simple and great idea on getting extra side pods painted at the start. I know what you mean re noisy but I wear custom moulded plugs anyway and prefer good ventilation to quiet.

Arai Side Pods

If you ask him nicely he may have a spare set that he could supply you with cheaply...
