Yes it is, the point I was making earlier is that Kawasaki have achieved compliance on the ZX10 through tweaking a few things but mainly by banging a large, restrictive cat on that also seems, from when I rode one, to dumb down exhaust noise too, acknowledging that noise doesn't just come from the exhaust. If the S1K gen3 is already Euro4 'ready' as it says on BMW US's tech. sheet as opposed to what's been said in the UK bike press then the S1000 isn't going to need any cat / exhaust changes and will remain as loud as it is in its current state. Great on the road, but increasingly not so great on track days. It also shows how far ahead of the game BMW were compared with Kawasaki and Ducati, where the 1299 that has only been out for a year or so is only Euro3 compliant and I guess will gain a 959 style exhaust / cat next year.

The gen 3 is euro 4 compliant. All bikes this year need to be built to those regs until Euro5 in about 5 years time, yay. If the 3rd gen wasn't euro 4 when it launched last year BMW would have had to introduce changes in 2016, which they haven't. Unless they got special dispensation which I would expect would be unlikely for a new model bike.

so in a very long winded way I agree with baz :).

As I understand it,all new bikes needed to be euro4 for 2016 but current production models(2015) carried a concession until 2017.
I read somewhere that Ducati had to put sound deadening in the engine cases etc. on euro4 bikes.

Hi Alex
I have a full system (SIL Motor) that has failed the Brands drive by so I'm trying this on July 21st at the GP circuit, I'm hoping it works or I'll have to sell my place :( It does significantly dull the noise of the DB killer provided with the system. I only ordered the cage from the guy, about ?26 delivered, then a couple of screw holes with self tappers to hold the cage on. I'll let you all know how I get on in July, fingers crossed. I'll need it at Le Mans in Aug too, I was tugged there as well. Failing that, I too will stick to Spain/Portugal etc track events.

My system is this one here, and happens to be my bike they took the pics of :)

Well used the DB cage as above and passed on full system with 98DB static at Brands GP circuit on 21st July, plus did not set off the drive by so the cage works really well. I can rest easy now for other MSV tracks. That cage worth every penny folks :)
