I only do noisy days now, can't be bothered with the noise police, I don't think they really want our business anymore and I prefer to go to Spain/Portugal/Italy, well anywhere, but the UK really.

It's a shame as we have some lovely circuits here in the UK.

Is this just an issue if you choose to run with a non standard system though, which of course you don't have to, as it's no effort to put the std can back on. Or are you saying its got to the stage now where even the std set up is a problem at most tracks as it can be on other bikes like the 1299?

It's the flyby noise detectors. They seem to have lowered the acceptable limit and the stock systems are starting to fail them, even ours. It's probably got something to do with stock systems not giving 'honest' static tests. As demonstrated in earlier posts, if the exhaust valve shuts the DB's drop significantly getting a static pass. The valve isn't shut on track.

I also got black flagged at Snet (last session luckily). The S1000RR is the loudest stock exhaust setup on any bike I've owned, and it's definitely louder than my aftermarket "race" pipe equipped bikes too. It doesn't do itself any favours with the pops and cracks from the quickshifter/secondary air injection either (it's one of my favourite features, mind).

It's an unfamiliar situation to be looking at aftermarket exhausts to make the bike quieter!

My old Gen2 with full Akro and properly mapped was 99db at Bedford. My Gen3 standard was 100db at Cadwell yesterday. Both static tests at 5500rpm

Hi Alex
I have a full system (SIL Motor) that has failed the Brands drive by so I'm trying this on July 21st at the GP circuit, I'm hoping it works or I'll have to sell my place :( It does significantly dull the noise of the DB killer provided with the system. I only ordered the cage from the guy, about ?26 delivered, then a couple of screw holes with self tappers to hold the cage on. I'll let you all know how I get on in July, fingers crossed. I'll need it at Le Mans in Aug too, I was tugged there as well. Failing that, I too will stick to Spain/Portugal etc track events.

My system is this one here, and happens to be my bike they took the pics of :)

Where would I go to get a longer dB-killer/baffle insert? Does anyone make them for Akro pipes?

James at Snetterton, who is responsible for the noise policing, told me that if he adhered strictly to the rules there would be no fast or intermediate groups!!

As I understand it,the noise limits have not changed but the equipment is now much more accurate. It's digital to 0.1db and also able to be linked to cameras,so it's no use arguing!

Sadly,it's not their fault-the local council environment officers are allowed full access to the data.Ultimately,it's our own faults for running shorty cans/removing baffles etc.and having such powerful motorcycles.

I made an adjustable sleeve for my baffle as the arrow has a number of holes which can be covered/uncovered.
An Akra baffle doesn't have holes so would need cutting/extending or an adjustable sleeve.
Competition Fabrications(Richy-Bins son) can carry out any mods.

Not much use to any of us but I wonder if Euro 4 is going to improve things for std bikes, the new ZX10 seems much quieter than the gen 3 :frown-new:

So it's not looking good for a decat system then.

Do trackdays in Spain simples.......No noise limit. Yes that's right.......No noise limit, comparable money too.

it could have been the usual salesman BS but I was told the gen3 is already euro4.He said it was usual BMW policy to be 2 years ahead.
It would certainly make sense, the fact they changed the cylinder head/airbox and exhaust system for 2015.

The "fast bike" test said that the Kwak and 959 were the only Euro 4 compliant bikes present so don't think the S1kR is... Which begs the question, Gen 4 next year anybody??

All the mag tests have said only the 959 and ZX10 are Euro 4 compliant, then again they've all changed their minds about 'best sportsbike' one year on...

Very true... And they've also said the new regs strangled the bikes, in which case im glad I've got the one I have before they get their regulatory mits on it!

The tech data for the 2015 says Euro4 ready. To be ready for Euro4 you have to pass the test.

I would be surprised if further modifications are required to the engine apart from, possibly, some sound deadening(mind you, quietening the cam chain would require a complete re-design!).I would imagine larger catalysts are probably required.
As exhausts/mapping seem to be the biggest issues, the usual aftermarket exhaust/pcv would bring the performance back.

Of course,we may end up staying in so Brussels may tell us we can't touch anything!

It seems a bit strange that everyone I have spoken to has no knowledge of a 2017 update which,of course would be necessary to comply with euro4.
I also seem to remember reading that when the 2010 came out that it was already euro3.

The gen 3 is euro 4 compliant. All bikes this year need to be built to those regs until Euro5 in about 5 years time, yay. If the 3rd gen wasn't euro 4 when it launched last year BMW would have had to introduce changes in 2016, which they haven't. Unless they got special dispensation which I would expect would be unlikely for a new model bike.

so in a very long winded way I agree with baz :).

Those lying journo's, FB said Kawasaki were complaining that it wasn't a level playing field in their SBOTY test as only the ZX10 was EU4 compliant and the 1299 certainly isn't so if the S1K is it appears its going to be increasingly tricky to take a std litre bike on UK track days in the future, so we'd better vote 'remain' and head to 'Spain'!
