Secured a Black 2004 ZX10R from Hemel Hempstead, looks a good one...2 owners, 17.5k.....it's a bit of a mission from here so heading down on Friday night and kipping at Newcastle under Lyme Travelodge. Their holding unreal money, a guy from Arisaig just listed a C1 yesterday on EB @ £5750.00 !. It was a minter..

Just back after picking this up... I'm tired as hell... looks good, sounds the business...work starts on it tomorrow...I'll get it up on my hoist and see whats what...

9 hours drive today.. 800 mile round trip !

Had her up on the bench last yesterday and had a good hunt round, engine looks dry, rad looks fine (fall apart if poorly maintained). Body work is good for age, engines tight and revs well...I forgot all about that guy thing whine off the induction side...magic !

Theres an R1 caliper conversion on the front, not too happy about the routing of the lines, might need to modify, Brembo M/C conv peering thru the reservoir the fluid could be doing with a change..

Anyhow ordered a service kit last night, was pretty lucky, picked up a set of Iridium NGKs for 27 quid, Hi-Flo Air Filter for under a tenner, 10/40 fully synthetic Power 1 was ?31 delivered off EB.. scrolled down to seller it was Opie surprisingly, I had almost bought 4 ltrs direct from the @ ?36 but they had no plugs hence the search... on that note the plugs on this are a pure ******* to get too.

I've printed off the 18k maintenance schedule and some items are timed out too, so I'll do everything except the valve clearances as I don't have shims...

Pain in the *** of a bike to work on, stripped off side and bottom plastics, under seat was filthy which bugs the **** right out of me, so cleaned as I went, tank off, air box out, filter was howling.. clocked a repair on lhs...some nice discreet earth colored tape.. [emoji46]..I'll need to figure out what it was and tidy it up... threw the towel in 20 mins ago.. still got engine mounts to remove before I can pop the leads off the coils and get to the plugs ! .. mind that programme when they sent a wee remote control car up some shaft in a pyramid to find out what was at the end of it... yea...thats right my plugs ....

Good pictures! No doubt start of interesting thread. In the third pic down (radiator) is there something cracked in left hand side of photo. Looks like some black plastic with a crack in it?

Well spotted Rob, yea I noticed it..it's the rubber split at the top of the Coil.. their ?45 quid ea new [emoji85]... I'll see how it looks when I whip them out... also Mic'd the discs..below min thickness...

Discs will no doubt be a good few quid, but no bad thing to start out with new discs and pads. Especially on a track bike!

Agreed...was thinking a 320/330 conversion, but I'll get her serviced and cleaned up, get her out a few blasts on the road and see how these R1 calipers are... the lever feels good.

Plugs arrived so charged on, whipped off engine mounts, pulled 1st Coil and nearly had a heart attack, it was covered in black greasy ****..at first I thought it was oil !..turns out it was old grease some monkey had slapped on each coil to "aid" correct location..each one was same..to be sure there wa?s no cracks in the head/rocker cover I scoped the bores with my inspection cam...excellent bit of kit from everyones favourite challenger supermarket..

The plugs are really time consuming to change due to having pull the bike apart to get to them, they look as though the bikes running rich but it's hardly turned a wheel and ran the last few times barely off choke so heres hoping... an ideal time to balance the throttle bodies but I've no gauges so thats that !... replaced that tacky insulating tape repair with self amalgamating tape, it's great stuff....and looks way better...

I'll finish reassembling the airbox/filter and refit the tank tomorrow and get her fired up...next will be chain and sprockets, drain and flush rad, oil and filter, tyres and a wheel refurb...

Some more pics... couple of plugs were barely secure.. supposed 13nm torque value, one in particular came out by rotating the extension with my fingers !..
