So the big BMW reveal of the long anticipated and talked about naked rr is..... an rr with straight bars and less fairing, yawn. I'm not sure what I was expecting but a bit more than that.

Makes the sport rr look very tidy :) in comparison IMO.

Makes me laugh you are all slagging it off. Looks pretty much the same as an RR to me, minus clip ons and a screen. Fancy putting odd lights on the front that make it look ugly. Oh... wait...

They've apparently given it more mid-range power. Top speed on a naked isn't really the goal so doesn't need anymore than 160.

True, but find me a biker who doesn't want more power? Having 33bhp less than the rr is quite a bit, and that will affect performance regardless of top speed. I'm guessing that closer gear ratios will help cancel out the disadvantage against the rr?

My K13R is 3 hp less (173) than the K13S, but with shorter gear ratios it is faster. BMW didn't castrate the naked model of that lineup by 15% power reduction, so I am guessing with this bike that they are trying to ensure that no rr buyers buy the r as an alternative, instead attract new customers?

Still fugly.

Yep, like a lot of women I know, the body looks great, but just look at the face on it! Mind you, the new Z1000 seems to be just as ugly too - at this rate, I'm gonna be the best looking thing on the road :woot:

Having thought about it more, I think that this unattractiveness is good and it may mean that our bikes remain the popular/only choice, which will hopefully help residuals? (my glass is always half full) However, I guess the price of the S1000R and it's options will have a massive bearing, plus someone will come out with a nice easy-to-fit aftermarket face for it?

It will also be interesting if any of the S1000R parts port across to our bikes, e.g. the footpegs for the lanky legged Ruben Xaus's and Terry Rymer's amongst us. Who will be the first to fit that new saddle or new levers or new rear luggage or new front luggage?

It has 7lb more torque than the RR , I think theres only Aprilia and KTM who are sticking with full fat......
It's the weight that is the killer , even the RR is one heavy fucking bike IMHO , even if it is 200HP , an R6 will be much quicker in the twisties because it is lighter.
Old 500cc GP bikes weighed 115kg , they were only 150 hp but that additional weight is the killer..
Think we are geunuinely having a laugh if you think you can use all the bikes power on the road or the track , just like scoffing at 160 HP , the fancy suzzies is a big plus IMHO

Looks are a matter of personal taste (and it's not to mine) but I think the real issue is the decision to detune it, just as KTM bring out a V Twin naked with a claimed 177bhp... Bad call.

Edited in light of the previous post: Not because it would be a better bike with 180bhp, but numbers sell - that's the sad truth.

I've heard the price tag will be under 10k. If thats true it will be interesting.
