I had this on my 2010 bike. I contacted BMW motorrad and the dealer and sent a 60 page forum link that about the problem and that it was a well known issue. BMW replaced both cams and followers F.O.C. and 50% labour.

Poor maintenance would be lack of oil, track use? It's a superbike ffs, we can't use what it's got anyway lol
