Has anyone else had this issue? The dealer is saying that it wont replace under warranty as it's done some trackdays. And here's me thinking that it was designed for that very job!

It's obvious its seen a trackday as its only at that speed that the problem emerges, I told them that as a test ride only shows a mild vibration. Cooper @ Tunbridge.
Don't need this I can tell you :-(

Have you checked them on a gauge? It may not be a warp if you haven't. Plenty have been due to stuck floats or pad build up on the disc.

I would keep quiet about trackday time and your bike mate. Some dealers use it as a get out of jail card.

If you explain to the dealer that you believe the discs are warped then they should check them with a gauge, no test ride bollocks, wtf is that about?

I have had a set of discs replaced under warranty.

It's very unusual for the disks actually to be warped. Usually "warped" disks are just not floating properly due to the floating rivets seizing up. When disk heats up under braking it can't float and you get vibrations.

If is often easy to fix by removing disk applying some WD40 to rivets only & wiggling it with pliers or mole grip. Make sure to clean off any excess lubricant with brake cleaner before refitting.

I stand corrected by Andy's post. Yes do get then checked with gauge. If that shows nothing and still vibrating it's probably the not floating problem.

My mirror stay cracked and the 1st thing they asked me was had it done a track day. think it is just a get out

They've already had it all apart it IS warped disks. So, we saying that the S1 isn't up to trackdays then? Me confused....
I had NO idea that using it well within it's supposed design parameters would worry the warranty. That's what it's designed for! I'm only doing a few days in inters not running at the Suzuka 24hr ffs.. all advice appreciated!

In every case of "warped brake disc" that I have investigated, whether on a racing motorbike or a road motorbike has turned out to be friction pad material transferred unevenly to the surface of the disc. This uneven deposition results in thickness variation (TV) or run-out due to hot spotting that occurred at elevated temperatures. These temperatures whilst reached at track more so, also are found by some road users
As far as I'm concerned, if it can't handle me plodding round, either the materials or design must've been dodgy to start with. I've had Honda's and Suzukis round tracks and never ever had a problem!

Can you try a different dealer, & not say anything about trackdays. Tell them you only noticed the problem at speed when riding on the autobahn on a trip to Germany.

It can happen - you're very unlucky by the sounds of it.
I don't know where you stand so I'll not comment on that.

Supposing you get no joy.
These will fit the cast wheels: http://www.carpimoto.it/en-GB/23937_168B407D7-Brembo-Serie-Oro-Brake-Disc-168B407D7.htm - you'll need 2 at €111 each.
These will fit the forged rims: http://www.carpimoto.it/en-GB/43526_78B40888-Brembo-Serie-Oro-Brake-Disc-78B40888.htm - 2x €191

Just for information not saying what's right or wrong.
Thanks, I understand your reluctance to judge...
However, I have to say that I'm a bit miffed to put it mildly. I had no idea that the supposed purpose for which it was designed was that limited. It never occured to me that the odd trackday would be a problem, I thought I had the right tool for the job!

I'd go back to coopers and ask them to confirm that BMW uk say warped discs on a warrantied bike is not covered. Say you want it in writing. As I posted, I have had warped discs replaced under warranty so it is possible.

Unfortunately some dealers shun warranty work because they don't get paid as much by BMW uk as they do on retail rates per hour. It's not unknown for a shit dealer to say something is not covered when it is, and I was told that by my dealer! I know it's wrong but some should stick to selling cars and not delve into bikes which is a different ballgame.

Thanks, appreciate the input. They'll be back to me soon as I've already expressed my displeasure, and I have their loan bike in the garage that they'll want back at some point!
If they wont warrant the discs on a supposed 'superbike' then why sell them as such? Fitness for purpose?
I'll report back...
