A good thing to point out might be that they DO supply the slick key as standard. In the manual it makes it VERY clear that slick mode should only be used on track and not road. Thus they are supplying a bike to be used on track (albeit not for race or time trial use).
Nice line of reasoning FS, what can possibly go wrong!

Since the dealer knows you had the bike on the track, they can deny replacement under warranty. I know bmw does the same exact thing when it comes to their passenger vehicles. Lots of customers take in their vehicle and have complaints about calipers discoloring, heat spots on rotors, etc. and get denied warranty work because of "racing" or "tracking" a vehicle. Is it right for bmw to do that? I personally don't. Customers paid to have wear and tear items replaced under warranty when they bought the vehicle. But i guess that's why bmw revised their no cost maintenance plan to not include brakes from 2017 and newer.

Yes, i know bmw vehicles and motorcycles are different. But when it comes to warranty claims, it is pretty much the same. But good luck to you! Hopefully they replace it under warranty

US vs UK (EU) may have different rules FYI.

Is it possible to put up a poll? Not on the rights or wrongs, but simply in the 'Will they or Wont they'!

Agreed!

My personal opinion on this is that warped discs on a track day is not a "wear and tear" issue, it is a legitimate fault with the discs and "should" be covered by the warranty.
If it was just hot spots, discolouring etc then that's just cosmetic, but for the discs to warp there's an issue.

Fingers crossed they honour the warranty!

Warped Brake Disc

If you use your bike on track then you have to expect exaggerated wear on chain, sprockets, brake pads and discs (including warping) etc. In the past I've had Brembo brake discs warp after only a couple of trackdays; it just happens sometimes. I would think it's unlikely that BMW would replace a brake disc under warranty especially if they know it's been used on track, but that may surprise you and change it anyway in good faith.

As for the Slick Plug have a read of p56 in the Owner's Manual. It categorically states that if you use it then the motorcycle's homologation for public road use is completely voided. It also makes zero distinction between different types of race circuit use i.e. trackdays and racing.

Yes I know about the slick plug, that's why I've never used - ever!
with wear, yes of course and I'm happy to pay for that, but I wouldn't call warping wear. I'd have thought warping would be as a result of the choice of materials or inappropriate pad choice exceeding the capability of the brakes to dissipate the heat. I've only ever used OEM pads. Why would they warp?

Warped Brake Discs

On track it's normally the result of excessive heat build-up which can cause discs to warp. I would be more surprised if you had been using HP discs and they had warped as they are far better in terms of design for dissipating heat than the standard discs.

So that means that the std discs may not be as good as they could be then as the HP discs are better. I'm not sure what I could have done differently tbh though so it could be a costly problem to fix when I'm not convinced it was my problem in the first place. Hopefully some news next week! Need bike back for a few trips asap!

I have used my S1000RR 2010 for trackdays all the time. This bike is made for road and track. I had no problems with the OEM rotors even at Misano that I went for 3 days in the row and braking 2 times per lap from 260Km/h to 70km/h. Only once I had a problem with brakes and thought the discs were wrapped but I changed brake pads and clean the rotors and everything was OK. Now I use Alpha Racing rotors and I have a bit more power and feeling while braking.

Clean the disc face and rivets and I guarantee the "warped metal" will magically straighten itself out.
Really?? Is that the same level of guarantee as the warranty or does that actually mean guarantee!
No mate, they're warped.
I wont take your money!

Just to clarify, I've tried new pads and a clean up already, made no difference at all.

Yea if they're warped that it, there's no chance to fix them, they need replacing.

Cleaning discs is good for when they get glazed (causing squeaking), or when pads are changed to have a fresh surface (pads need to transfer material to the disc in order to work)

I've had plenty of "warped" discs straighten themselves out through cleaning them properly.

Before you bin them send them to me and I will gladly clean them and race on them.

All sorted. Both discs and pads replaced FOC. It feels SO much better now. The key factor seems to be that BMW organise their own trackdays, so clearly there's an expectation that the bike is built for track use and hence it is covered by warranty.
Don't anyone tell you otherwise!
