I want to fit a relay and fuse block to my 2015 RR so that I can power a radio and heated clothing - on all my previous bikes I've taken the live switched feed from the number plate light but on this model I'm struggling to find a feed. Has anyone got any advice - I've considered using the GPS feed that's referenced in the manual but I suspect that won't have enough power for the clothing
thanks in advance

Under left side panel fairing there is a plug which u can buy the plug that fits it that has switch live and constant live which I power my sat nav off

i dont suppose you can tell me if the 2012 model had this connector? i found this thread on here and was about to order the lead but it looks like they only added this connector starting in 2015! has anyone fitted one to an earlier year s1000rr?

Just done a quick search and it would appear so

The plug is situated just in front of the tank to the right hand side. Has a black cap on it. I spliced a bmw plug into the garmin power lead. Red wire to wire 1. Black to wire 2. Wire 3 is not required. Bingo , gps powers up on ignition.

Im assuming this means wire 1 is live w/ignition and wire 2 is earth. but you'd best check with a multimeter first.

You could use the power from the accessory socket to power a relay for the clothing.

Sorry i meant it appears as if there is one, i believe all CANbus bmws have accessory plugs to prevent people tapping into wires.

If all else fails there will be a live after ignition coming from the ZFE (or CVE) unit probably a green wire you can tap into but i wouldn't recommend using that if you don't know what you're looking for.

Brilliant thanks Stephen. ill order the plug for when i pick up the bike and hunt it down then, i'll assume its by the head stock on the right as other forums suggest..

yea its usually in that area.

BUT according to this listing the lead only fits 2015 onward? Might be worth waiting until you have the bike to look for it? It could be that there is a plug there for another reason that you can still use. If that is the case, it will need a different plug connection(or you can just cut and solder to it?)

Edit: Just looked at the parts fiche, the connector we mentioned earlier could be for the infrared lap timer. But it will have a live feed you could use.

I'm pretty sure the 2012 does have the connection to fit the plug I linked to. It's under the left or right side front fairing. It gives you power via the canbus and has a timed delay off. On the hp4 (2013) it is on the right just behind the horn mounting. Easily missed because it is black with a black cap on it, closely bound with black electrical tape to other black cables. Not helpful but I think BMW did it deliberately like this as it is intended for race accessories. Someone with a 2012 should be able to confirm?

Yeah I've read lots of contradicting forum posts. I read that website too Stephen, it's what made me question it. I also read it was for a lap timer!

I also found somewhere the bmw don't sugest using it outside of its intended purpose and one bike caught fire!!

I'll wait till I pick it up and investigate that area soof. The leads seem readily available and people have had some success by using it. The tomtom cable has ultra thin wires so it clearly isn't drarwring enouhg amps to cause a problem

I'll report back definitively once I've checked and maybe fitted it

I don't think you'll have any problems ant. It's very common to run a nav off the canbus socket and I have never heard of anyone who has had a bike combust as a result of doing so. I have run a Garmin off mine without issue. The dealer will also fit the plug to your wiring if you buy it from them which may be easier?

As i mentioned earlier you can use a relay for high current applications, and as soof mentioned I've never heard of a bike combusting like that. The ecu should cut power to the feed if it read anything outside of acceptable current or voltage (as far as im aware)

Let us know how you get on.

Edit: I've fit a couple of these to customers bikes, a good solution if you think you might want to add more accessories.

I couldn't get the cap off with pliers and a flathead screwdriver :/ But it was dark so maybe I missed something....or I'm just crap.
