Overflow and vent hose

Hi all,

Preparing my bike for the track...question. Out of the tank, there are 2 hoses that go to the ground (and to canister when following race rules). Overflow and vent. One of them, on the left side, split into a T, with one end going to the ground and the other end being very short and open to the air. Is that second, small one, open to the air, any necessary ? I can't figure out why not a straight hose, without that T...

I think you'll find that,on US bikes,it goes to an evaporation canister to comply with their emissions.
