Right lads thats me and two mates ready to roll tomorrow morning. Hoping for good weather.

Same route last June the weather was scorching, it doesnt look anywhere near as good. As long as its dry.

Will take plenty snaps and post up for the boys..

Pretty jealous Stuart, I missed my annual highlands trip last year and looks like I won't be able to squeeze one in until the end of July.

Enjoy!

I've never even been north of Edinburgh and we are just about to plan this for a gentle tour round with my GF, so that we can do a short notice jobbie when ever the weather looks good. Would be very interested in recommendations from you Scottish guys on stopping points, secure locations for bikes overnight etc.... She is a little concerned about riding too far each day after our Spain trip so any advice much appreciated! How long do you usually take? Really looking forward to it. Enjoy Stuart!

Edinburgh and Glasgow are the only places I would ensure the hotel had secure parking other than that chaining the bikes together is absolutely sufficient. The NC500 route is glorious and is featured on a programme over the next three weeks on BBC Alba. In the 3 years since it has been advertised by the Scottish tourist board it has regularly been voted in the worlds top ten roads to be driven on. Bit of a shame as it will only mean it will get busier in years to come. So much to see and do around the loop you will come back and do it in the other direction and it will look like a different road.

We are going start of July, shame the programme is on alba, tried watching it the other night brain rot and a load o ***** stuff added to pad it out a bit

That looks like a fantastic trip. So many things to do and so little time!

Looking forward to some pics.

@RacersEdge Top tip - pack some Avon 'skin so soft' it really helps with the midges :)

Are you doing the full route? Camping/hotels?

Don't miss the Bealach Na Ba over to Applecross, stop at the pub for lunch and make sure you order some seafood. Kylesku Hotel is a nice spot to stop for some refreshments too.

Make sure your tyres have plenty left on them as the roads are really grippy and quite abrasive. If you get stuck for tyres/breakdowns etc. Mitchells in Inverness is the nearest place.

Depends on how much you want to stop and see or whether you prefer riding to sightseeing. I normally do 300 miles a day but that's riding from 9am to 4-5pm without stopping other than a quick coffee/pee/fill up. Maybe 45 mins for a sit down lunch somewhere nice.

They're tight and twisty roads so you struggle to keep the average speed up. If I was touring with the other half, I'd say 150-200 miles a day is plenty.

There is a new bike garage opened in Ullapool, think he has tyres etc in stock for anybody with problems.

I'll keep an eye out for you today Stuart,I'm just heading up to Ullapool just now. Craicing day for it! Shame I'm on 4 wheels rather than 2

Aye? That's good to know, I imagine he'll get plenty of business with the recent popularity of the NC500. I've had to run folk over to Mitchells several times over the years, usually for tyres. Always told the guys to put a fresh pair on before we go just in case the wear quicker than usual but there's always one :)

This is on my list to do next year !! Tried to watch a bit on Alba but it's brain rot listening to it!! Be good to hear from Stuart how it goes, fingers crossed the weather holds out!

Cheers for the comments lads.. were booked into Loch Maree hotel 1st night then Jurys inn Inverness on Saturday.. I done a decent write up on here last year.. I reckon my rear will just make it... I had a slow puncture on my 7RR rear last year and never knew it till I got home..the morning after it was completely flat..

Just seen the weather forecast Stuart. Your gimp suit is going to get a good soaking by the looks of it. Hope you manage to avoid the rain and enjoy the trip. Ride safe :).

Was in a volvo 4x4.

Saw plenty bikes out and about, but no s1000rr's.

Seeing the way a couple of the groups of bikes were riding, it's understandable why the locals up north are complaining. I'm not an angel on the road by any means, but some of the riding I saw was outright dangerous!

Won't be long before the roads are crawling with police, cause the minority spoiling it for everyone.
