Im in york and my local bmw specialist barry robson wont get involved with fitting a decat. Any body know of any places nearby that could do it
Thanks

Its their right to turn away business.
Are you talking about a decat which involves cutting the cat off? You just need an exhaust place. Doesn't have to be bike specific.

Yea i know its fair do's if they dont want to do it, not slagging them off or anything. Ive turned jobs down myself. I just thought they'd be the best place to do it, thought they must of come across it before.

Paul at Dyno bike Malton not to far from you and he's great esp with fueling issues etc

Already got the link pipe but it looks a real pain with radiator in the way n stuff plus im worried i might knock a sensor or something

Man up....;-)

I fitted my own full Akra system, takes about 8 hours.

You can release the radiator from it's top and bottom mounts and push it forward, no need to drain the cooling system, just be careful not to damage the radiator.

I believe you can fit a decat without removing the headers though, sure I have read it on here.

Crikey i dont have 8 hours of peace, wen i worked on my last bike i came outside to find my 2 year old helping me/ hitting my bike with a spanner. It was matt black aswel so left some nice dings

Sounds like you are wanting to fit new headers? The link pipe goes between the headers and the end can to replace the section with the cat and can be fitted easily and much quicker than 8 hours, more like 1.

No just the link pipe but im guessing i have to remove the headers to chop the cat off, or can i chop it off in situ?

I wold remove the headers to chop the cat off, prevents any damage to the bike. The headers come of in about 45 mins including stripping off the fairing if you are mechanically minded. you will need Torx sockets for the header nuts.

ekdg is right. I was wrongly thinking of the full system on mine which is different to the stock system on your bike.

The other thing to consider is what year is the bike as the headers changed on the 2012 bike where they go to the cat. The early 2010 2011 are the same diameter from where the 4 go to 2 then into the cat, the 2012- 2014 headers have a less diameter section before widening to a larger diameter where they meet the cat again.

It may be worth having a look for a cheap second hand exhaust to chop up, you will also have a decent original set of headers for if you ever sell the bike.

Its a 2010. Think i will try find a garage to do it. Sounds like too big a job for me. Cheers for all your help

The problem I found when I did mine was that part of the sump passes down between the two pipes where you need to cut it, so you can't just take a hacksaw to it from underneath and saw both pipes at the same time. I ended up using a wire pipe cutter and doing each pipe in turn, in-situ, with a jubilee clip either side of the wire as I was cutting. I just took my time pulling the wire back and forth over each pipe in turn. Took me 15-20mins to cleanly cut through each pipe. De-burred it with a file / emery tape then clamped the the Danmoto decat pipe on, refitted the end can and bob's your uncle, job done.

I've since had it remapped by Geoff at Hilltop. It still seemed ok but was running lean. It's running sweet-as now.

The best option would be to drop the headers and cut the pipes off the bike but I fancied having a go myself. Just make sure you cut in the right place so you can run as much of the remaining headers up inside the link pipe. The Danmoto link pipe came with the cutting instructions and I did also use the fitting kit and hanger brackets to hold it all on underneath, although you could probably get away without that.

Good luck with it and let us all know how it goes.

Oh, mine's a 2013 S1000RR and the pipes do taper on this model, which makes it all the more important to cut them in the right place. I put the cat I removed on the bathroom scales and it came in at 7.5kg.

Yea i was tempted to cut it from underneath with a dremil but it does look like a right faff about

Phoar thats a lump and a half. Imagine what it will be like with Euro 4!

Akrapovic must be rubbing their hands with glee. Zero bikes will leave the showroom without an aftermarket system fitted!
