Do they have a ridiculously slow group available at cadwell on the 20th june? I'm off work that day so works out spot on :D. Never been on track so would need some advice (tuition).

You'll be fine Iain, that was where I first rode on track (in 1989!!), there'll be instructors there to show you the way round, its in the middle of nowhere though so make sure you allow time to get there as signing on will be early

Must admit i am desperate to get on track, purely to make myself a better all round rider. I live about 2 and a bit hours away but have a friend who lives in sheffield so i can stay there the night before.

What about Donington,? Nice, wide, flowing circuit, plenty of room for error unlike Cadwell..., and straight down the M1 from Sheffield

where would i look to find track day availability for Donnington? Its closer for me, I will have a look on their website see what events they have on. Liked the sound of these track days as they sound friendly for beginners.

Re: The Snetterton 9th May 2016 Trackday Thread

You'll find the majority of riders trailer track bikes along nowadays and set up with tyre warmers etc which I suppose could seem a bit serious and intimidating if you've never done it before, but there will be some road bikes there (road bike only track days are regaining popularity for that reason) and you'll find everybody's friendly and approachable. Book into the novice group, I suspect you'll feel more than comfortable there for the day but if you feel that you can go a lot faster as the day progresses move up a group. Definately do it, I don't go often enough but always enjoy it when I do.

Iain, book Cadwell for June and stay over the night before if you can. There's a hotel most of us crash at that's 10 minutes from the circuit. People get unnecessarily worried about going on a track but tbh there's a lot of 'all the gear and no idea' folks about and the fast guys don't try and intimidate anyone they are there to have fun too.

Gents, I've created this thread from the off topic chat in the Snetterton page to allow us to continue discussing how Iain can best pop his cherry.

If you have the nuts to buy an s1000rr, then you be ok on track. 1st time start in novice, get to know the track and progress from there. Just because you are on track DOES NOT mean that you have to go fast, it's all about feeling what yr bike can do in safety, you will realise what you can do on yr bike without kerbs, trees, oil, gravel, dickhead cagers, bus stops, pedestrians, smidsy's, AND, you all get to circulate in the same direction lol ! Relax and enjoy, there is no pressure......

I had my first track day last month on a James whitham training day. I was nervous before we went out but 3 laps in and i was comfortable.

It's an amazing experience and I believe it has improved every aspect of my riding on/off track, I was able to get a feel of what the bike is capable of. Im sure ive only just scratched the surface, but its so much more than you can do (safely) on the road.

Isn't Oulton Park much closer to you than Donington? Do an evening session there just as a taster ;).?

Going a little off topic but its not worth its own thread.. Ive just been on trackdays.co.uk. does anyone know when it says format: 2 groups would that be inters and fast or..?

It just means that you are split in two groups instead of three, you still get the full spectrum.

Thanks for creating this Alex. Oulton park is closer to me your right Soof, but they have a 102DB sound limit and Donnington is 108DB. Not sure what mine is but its loud. I am definitely going to do one this year 100% just need to find the right place, time and when the money is available. Got so much going on this year which also includes my 18000 service & now this oil leak which cant be good as my bike seems to be getting hotter a lot quicker today when i took it out :(. Need that to be 100% right before i go giving it the beans round a track. Your comments are gratefully appreciated fellas.

Ian I'm going to book caddwell on the 20th June so you can ride over with me from Sheffield if you stay at your mates. Also doing Donnington on the 20th sept with Dave (ekdg) if you fancy some of that too.

Thanks Budgie, Donnie in Sept could very well be my best bet. Late in the season but probably the best time for me to have some spare cash. Its mainly my positioning on the bike i could do with some help with, i can keep up with most lads round the roads but sometimes i feel uneasy in corners or heavy on the front wheel. Guess it all comes with experience, ive heard from a lot of people that doing track days improved them as overall riders & thats what im looking for.

I wondered that Stephen, Some of the track days dont show any groups. Are these just a free for all where you go out anytime?

Open pit is a day with no fixed groups and you go out as you please. For more experienced riders ;).
