I feel I should tell a strange story regarding my bike with a reduced power output.

Having done a "power run" and comparing the result to other figures from the same model of bike. My bike seemed lower than normal with the rear wheel HP.

So having spoken to a BMW technician at the NEC, BMW agreed to take my bike for testing.

BMW have had a "power run" done with there demo bike and used the same wheel to do another "power run" with my bike and the result was a 12HP difference.

Up to now all I know is BMW told me today (25/01/17) "the electrics are fine and programs are up to date which means there's a mechanical issue, so BMW believe there is a lower than normal compression in a cylinder and are inspecting the top end of the engine and will carry out the repairs."

:(

I hope all will come good in the end and maybe I'll get a new bike hehe. I will keep you up to date when I am informed of the latest. :nightmare:

Good to hear it!

Thought there was more then a 12hp difference?
Maybe you had a super economical engine 😹Think of the positives!

Serious note glad it's being rectified, you wouldn't want an engine that compares to the new Fireblade when you can have an s1krr's!

12hp?
Track electronics told me the 2015+ models regularly only produce 184...I assume thats wheel but anyway. None are 199 afaik.

Well, when I had the run done the data sheet showed maximum output of 174bhp. I've seen other data sheets with 191bhp at rear wheel. The garage did the testing and they told me it was 12 bhp down.

HPlogger - sorry to hear about your issue. Out of interest was it something you originally noticed/felt or was it the numbers that came back from the dyno that highlighted the issue?

I didn't really notice or feel it when riding, because I was gently running her in and had a steady trip to Switzerland, so taking it easy for the first few thousand miles from new including going to the IOM for TT (With less than 500 miles on the clock).

I was curious with the rear wheel power when it was run in so had the power run done. I was slightly disappointed with the result comparing to official figures though. Especially when the salesman told me the power figure is guaranteed (being at the Crankshaft/flywheel).

I had a bad service and customer relationship with the dealers I bought the bike from, so I checked everything out on the bike finding more faults than usual. Glad to have changed over now, even though it's further to travel for me.

They are a decent bunch, I personally rate them very highly for service, and you get premier member discount with them too :).

Yes Soof, I got a good feeling from them when I had the bike serviced and chain replaced (as it threw an O-ring).

I find it incredible that your bike completely stock output 191.82bhp Jamie! Amazing.

Just this minute I've spoken to the service department at Allan Jefferies as to what they found.

Two stem seals were leaking. 🤔

Good on BMW for taking this on, I can tell you ya wouldn't get that level of care / service from Yamaha who I've been involved with many times over the years.

Like you say they might give you a new bike but either way I'm sure they'll rectify it

Thats good that they've found something...and its something replaceable.

If it's what I think it is, stem seals seal oil from going back up the valve stem , nothing to do with power.....

Also could reduce compression in the cylinder.

It's not a valve seal it's a valve stem seal which is rubber (prob composite) which stops the minutest amount of lubricant running up the stem into combustion chamber, as it gets worse so it shows as smoke out the can. Can't see how it affects compression.
