I feel for you Ant, I've been there on a few occasions and it's always heart braking when you look at the bike and see the scars but as everyone says at least you are ok machines can be replaced we can't. I have only ever claimed once when it was a massive high side and the bike was smashed to bits. But the other times I just forked out the money myself. Going back a few years I got a full respray for around ?500 (I think) I had to strip the bike panels off and supply the decals but when it was done it look like new you could not tell it was ever down the road :)

TBH Stuart from my short experience of this forum this is exactly what i thought would happen, it even gave me comfort as i pondered the repairs as i finished the ride after the drop.

I had no doubt of the integrity of the members here, like minded people....

huge thanks to everyone, i have tried to reply to each person too

just glued up the bits that broke and its looking good. an indicator and seat then ill just sit and wait for eBay to deliver or resprays! thats the theory but will know tomorrow when i refit the bits and see if it all holds together

Out of interest, what brand crash bobbin was it that sheared off?

I know every off is different and you can't judge them on an individual incident but it's not a brilliant advert for crash bobbins..

My thoughts exactly! they were R&G aero's

i don't think it did anything other than snap of right at the base. wouldn't have expected the front damage if it had done its job. the rear i think caught the barrier when i laid it down (dropped it) can't explain the damage there otherwise

Could have been worse I suppose, better than it staying on and damaging the frame.

Good job the remaining bolt came out as well!

I had a left hand low side two years ago and R&G Crash bungs along with GB Racing covers saved the bike from any fairing damage. The R&G bolt bent so replaced the crash bung BUT last year got home from uneventful ride out and noticed replaced bung was missing and bolt had sheared for no apparent reason !! Removed bolt remains with left hand drill bit and extractor - reported to R&G and they sent me new Crash Bung. These bolts as designed to bend rather than shear so makes you wonder if there is a quality issue ???

yep - when i saw it still in there i was concerned, had only just tightened it that morning because it had shaken loose. before coming home i stopped for petrol and saw that it had all but removed itself.

Agree Parley - I've always thought its expensive stuff for what it is too. might just be a bad batch. will have them on again once its all fixed up

Sorry to hear of your slide but glad that you're ok.
My reply is a bit late as I'm just back from my Harley trip which started in Vegas and took me round to Yuma and San Diego , saddlebags is what you need instead of crash bungs to minimise the damage!
Hope you get the bike fixed up soon.

Thats a consideration Paz...

I have a guy looking at the panels later to give me a price in paint but do you have any idea how much you're looking for?

Hi Ant i have a set of red front fairings and a thunder grey seat cowl all genuine bmw parts, or did you get sorted ?

I've just managed to find a guy who picked up the panels today for me. he owns a bodyshop and does car, wheels & bikes. said it shouldn't cost more than 150 to repair and paint so I'm going for that option.

if anyone wants his detail let me know, he's in Nuneaton.

I may be interested in the seat cowl though, would need spraying also but at these prices that seems ok, do you want to PM me an ice of price you're looking for?

Ant

Do you still need indicators? Replied to your wanted thread about them...
