Buying a bike....no V5

Hi all

out of interest if you bought a track bike with no V5 (as never been registered.....Track bike since new)

But it has frame numbers and engine number.

How do you do your due diligence that its not nicked?

I'm sure when you try and do HPI checks it only ever lets you check via the VRN which I wont have.

Do they have the original invoice/order from the manufacturer?

I bought the bike anyway......

Tried calling HPI, they put me on hold for ages but then said they could do a search with just a VIN.

Called BMW UK.......

They could only tell me where it was supplied & dates.

I did however see someone from another dealer was able to show a picture of a HPI of the VIN that came back clear.

Think its not something open to public that only the motor trade maybe have access too.

Might be different over there but we have no v5s or any form of ownership papers.
