Sorry to post a topic that has nothing to do with bikes... I was looking for a bit of advice my wife has a BMW 118i. The engine low oil light came on today and the engine required a full 1lt of oil. the car is 3 years old and only covered 20k miles. I have a 5 year free service plan. just wondering if anyone mechanic minded thinks there could be an issue with her car ? cheers

When was it last topped up? I've had 3 and 5 series BMW diesels for much of the last 15 years and none have used much oil, however I had a nearly new Golf GTD co car recently that got through a litre of oil in 6000 miles which according to the dealer was normal. I'd check with either a BMW dealer or specialist but its probably just a characteristic of the engine.

only had it 7 months so last time it would have been checked would have been then.

My Daughter has a 2012 One series Coupe and has covered 25k miles in the two years she's had it, 43k miles since new, never had any oil outside servicing. Used primarily for 10-20 mile commutes several times a day.

Will be needing a clutch soon though.

If it's used a litre in 7 months that's not so bad I don't think, if it lost it in a month or less it's probably got a leak or it's burning it..

I've got a slight leak on my car but i didn't notice until I serviced it 'cause bms are panelled underneath so they don't leave oil on your drive...

I'd monitor it for the next month and see if it uses much, you should really check the oil level at least once a month anyway ;)

Was working all day today Ross trying to get a building ready for handover on Monday, only about a weeks worth of work to do by then, lol.
Everyone is on mega overtime to get it finished, I'm jiggered just watching.
