Hi Thomas, I did this 3 years ago when I had my 2011 s1k, pulled in fuel station filled it up in a rush to get home then just over a mile down the road it cut out , I realised straight away what I'd done. When I got it back home I removed the tank and drained the diesel, flushed it through with petrol. I then replaced the plugs and filter (plugs are a little awkward to get to) and built it back up. Dropped a little fuel down the bores to help fire it up and away she went. Took it for a steady 10 mile run then dropped it in my local BM dealer just to hook it up to the tis machine and clear any fault codes and check none we're brought up. There was no damage whatsoever to the cats and it ran just as good as before. All in all it cost me about ?190 including the reset. What I would say is contact Stephen on this forum and get the bike over to him if you don't want to attempt doing it yourself,

Thanks Budgie but im from Belfast so it's to far for me ;) but many thanks for good idea ;)

still waiting till thursday finger cross they replace all necessary things and i get back my Bm ;)

Thomas, I managed to put diesel in an old TL1000 a few years back. I drained the tank and then completely filled it with petrol. The bike ran fine with no other parts replaced. It sounds like their is still diesel in your tank. Remember that diesel is heavier than petrol, so it will always sink to the bottom of your tank. All I would do is drain it agsin, and I mean DRAIN IT, even if you have to remove the tank. I hope this helps!

Thanks snooker i will b do it my self probably b faster and cheaper than BMW dealer, but guys from service they said cant give me back Bm with out fixing because i can loose my warranty if i do it my self ;( so im stuck have to wait .
I know BMW have to drain my wallet ;) Haha before give me back my Bm , hope so will b not long .

I did this the other weekend, I'd borrowed my son's Panigale, rode to the petrol station filled it up with Shell V power, got about 1/4 mile from station and it packed up. I couldn't understand, it was running fine until I filled up, then the penny dropped, I'd only gone and put V power diesel in, absolutely gutted. Anyway I chucked it in my van and took it home, syphoned the fuel out and replaced it with fresh V Power Petrol, hit the button and no sign of firing up at all, so I though stuff it and took it to Ducati Manchester.

I felt a bit of a dick telling them what I'd done but they said they'd seen it before, anyway gets a phone call later that day saying job done and collect when you're ready. I went to pick it up a few days later fearing the worst ?????, gives me a bill for ?86.00....Result !!!

Nothing on the bill about new plugs, filters or anything about the cat

Did a trackday at Oulton yesterday and it ran like a dream

PS I thought Ducatis were all diesels lolll

They've kind of got you there!

Be firm with them. I would only expect to pay for labour not parts (except for fresh petrol). One to two hours should be sufficient to drain and clean the fuel system thoroughly.

Good luck.

Hi Thomas. I really don't think you have anything to worry about. I was in the motor trade for the best part of 50 odd years, the last 25 of which I had my own garage business, maintaining trucks, vans, cars and pretty much everything else the customer wanted fixing. Over the years I must have attended to dozens and dozens of diesel vehicles with petrol in their tanks, and the same number of petrol vehicles with diesel in their tanks. The most I ever had to do was to drain out as much of the contaminated fuel as possible, change the fuel filter (some times) and clean out the carburettors, if fitted. I never had a problem at all with any of them to be honest.
The only problem I had, was getting rid of the contaminated fuel, so I used to put it in the tank of an old Ford Escort car I had as a run about and use it up that way. It used to splutter a bit and smoke a lot, but I managed to get rid quite a bit of the stuff that way. I just had to calculate that there was more petrol than diesel, that' all, with the Escort having a petrol engine.
I know the S1000RR is a high tech machine and everything, but I really think you will be ok with it. Just as a foot note, a friend of mine filled his Yamaha TDM 900 with diesel. He started it up and rode it till it stopped. He had it recovered to his home, he removed the tank, drained the contaminated fuel out, took out the fuel pump from the tank, found the fuel filter was a nylon gauze, put it all back together, put in fresh fuel and it's never missed a beat since...
