Hi, I'm Big_Nose, I first rode an s1000rr when it was launched back in 2010 (I think!?) BMW in Slyfield had a demonstrator, I was riding a K6 GSXR 600 at the time.
I sat on the showroom model and remember thinking it was like Cinderella putting on her slipper, it just felt "right". It was way out of my budget, even though the finance offering was tempting I decided to add it to my "want" list for sometime in the future. The Salesman came over and we had some small talk before he said the words every petrolhead wants to hear when looking at a new machine..." We have a demonstrator if you want to take it out for a blast"... I hesitated..."err...I'd love to but to be honest Im just looking, I cant afford one"... "No problem" he said, "Take it out anyway"....I didnt need to be asked a third time and before I knew it my driving license was scanned and I was out the front sitting on the nicest bike I'd ever seen. It was around 9:00 in the morning, I figured I'd take it up the road from Slyfield to Woking and back..."Just bring it back by midday" the Salesman said, turned and walked back into the showroom. Errr... OK!? So off I went, Up onto the A3 London bound (This was before the days of the Hindhead tunnel) the pop from the exhaust as I changed gear down the sliproad tickled part of my brain that had never been tickled before and I hit the A3 at warp speed. I went up a junction turned round and took my favourite loop down the A3 across the A272 and played around there for a couple of hours before heading back to drop it off... I knew after that I needed one of these bikes in my life.
I made all the usual mistakes a Man makes on his path through life, marriage, kids, mortgage, dogs etc etc and finally after getting divorced last year I found some common sense and got myself an S1000RR. Its a 2014 model with a silly exhaust and I adore it.
Anyway, as I look forwards into 2025 I see more trackdays etc ahead so I thought Id join the forum and try and learn a bit more about the bike.
