2 bikes one charger so I always remove battery's around this time of year. I then start to trickle charge them one month before I need them again.
As I use my bikes all through winter (unless Ice etc) I have never removed the batteries but would probably do that if in your situation.
Are you ever tempted to go out during the winter? We have some lovely winter days, dry and warm ish.

Well lads its that time of year. Just been reading that thread on HID lights and the Canbus system that we have on our bikes. How does it go with charging my battery.

Knowing not a lot on Canbus I read thru a few features and watched some videos..theres a lot of info on the web, I grasped the basics of it.

The question is, Ive an oxford optimate trickle charger is it ok to put that on my battery.

If not what do I have to buy.

Cheers the noo..

Stuart, both my bikes have HID lights and I keep them both on Optimate 4 chargers all the time, for the ten months of summer and the two months of mild Fife winters, never had any hassles in 7+ years of doing this.
Like Alex I've got the HP 4 plug in the cowl so it's easy to plug into. Luckily there is so much of a gap you can lock it back on with the cable exposed so you don't have the cowl lying around the floor to get damaged.
I am very impressed with the Optimate 4 as it has a lot of technology built in to protect batteries.

Jimmy whats the "HP4 plug" is that a specific part for our bikes ? Ive a wee optimate..cost 30 quid with the leads you just attach onto the battery ? And leave tucked away.

Lol he meant his HP4's Optimate plug end is in the tail like mine.

I always seem to have bad luck with batteries, and Lead Acids like to be kept gently topped up. So given the KTM is doing all the winter hacking, and the BikeTrac does sip a little juice, I rigged up a solar charger on the roof of the bike shed. Working very nicely.
