So tonight, some low-life decided that whilst I was eating at SouthBank, he would test the security on the bike.
I now have a f**ked brake disc.
Parked up at SouthBank, outside a pub and Pizza Express (foot traffic) at 8pm. Put on the steering lock, alarm and disc lock as normal. I say normal this is only the 2nd time it's been left outside in London. Met my girl had dinner, came back to the bike at ~10pm. I didn't notice anything in the fading light.
Took the bike lock off. Fired the bike up and now I know that if the red light keeps flashing for the alarm, someone tampered with her. I thought it had potentially been jostled in the motorcycle parking bay. Drove out the bay, when up a slip road and grabbed the brake to stop at the give way. Nothing happened. Lever pulled to the max, no brakes heading into traffic. Yay.... I pumped the brake quickly and got a form of lumpy retardation. Pulled up, got off and inspected.
There is a deep gouge from bolt croppers, two chips to the rim, and a small cut on the rubber round the Oxford Monster Disc Lock.
So I limped home - it was a mile or so. Called the Police, they've been and inspected, said it's rife in SouthBank...thanked me for my assistance, took details etc etc, but pointed out the obvious that they were not likely to find a culprit.
The brakes were not working because the pads were getting knocked back with every rotation of the disc. Hence needing to pump, but of course a new revolution would quickly dislodge them.
So there you go, tale of woe over.
Now, I need some brake discs....what are the best?
If that wheel is knackered....should I get carbon replacements?
I guess if the wheel is off I should fit some new forks
I can recommend the Oxford Monster Boss Disc lock it was deemed to be harder that the disc to tackle gauging by the marks.
I s**t you not I ordered a 13mm chain today for carrying about as opposed to the Almax 16mm Immobiliser that I can't carry, glad I don't regret not having a chain.
I shall have to sleep on it all and call Park Lane BMW in the morning. I'll book it in for a check over. But it will have to wait for the discs I choose to use. Urgh...money I didn't need to spend, but I still have a bike and that's what counts.
