So tonight, some low-life decided that whilst I was eating at SouthBank, he would test the security on the bike.

I now have a f**ked brake disc.

Parked up at SouthBank, outside a pub and Pizza Express (foot traffic) at 8pm. Put on the steering lock, alarm and disc lock as normal. I say normal this is only the 2nd time it's been left outside in London. Met my girl had dinner, came back to the bike at ~10pm. I didn't notice anything in the fading light.

Took the bike lock off. Fired the bike up and now I know that if the red light keeps flashing for the alarm, someone tampered with her. I thought it had potentially been jostled in the motorcycle parking bay. Drove out the bay, when up a slip road and grabbed the brake to stop at the give way. Nothing happened. Lever pulled to the max, no brakes heading into traffic. Yay.... I pumped the brake quickly and got a form of lumpy retardation. Pulled up, got off and inspected.

There is a deep gouge from bolt croppers, two chips to the rim, and a small cut on the rubber round the Oxford Monster Disc Lock.

So I limped home - it was a mile or so. Called the Police, they've been and inspected, said it's rife in SouthBank...thanked me for my assistance, took details etc etc, but pointed out the obvious that they were not likely to find a culprit.

The brakes were not working because the pads were getting knocked back with every rotation of the disc. Hence needing to pump, but of course a new revolution would quickly dislodge them.

So there you go, tale of woe over.

Now, I need some brake discs....what are the best?
If that wheel is knackered....should I get carbon replacements? :)
I guess if the wheel is off I should fit some new forks :) :p

I can recommend the Oxford Monster Boss Disc lock it was deemed to be harder that the disc to tackle gauging by the marks.
I s**t you not I ordered a 13mm chain today for carrying about as opposed to the Almax 16mm Immobiliser that I can't carry, glad I don't regret not having a chain.

I shall have to sleep on it all and call Park Lane BMW in the morning. I'll book it in for a check over. But it will have to wait for the discs I choose to use. Urgh...money I didn't need to spend, but I still have a bike and that's what counts.

Sorry to hear about that chap, it's a shit feeling hey!?

Have you called your insurance? I only ask as you sound like you're going to cover the cost yourself? I had a similar situation on a brand new bike a couple of years ago, they cropped the lock and lay on the seat and smashed the steering lock, that actually bust the headstock tab. Long story short, it was cheaper long term to pay myself, but I called the insurance to see if they did any recovery on my policy as the bike was un rideable.

They didn't, as I hadn't crashed! So I had to pay for recovery too. I only found out at renewal time that I'd lost all my bonus due to attempted theft of my bike! I hadn't even claimed a penny! It took me absolutely ages and load of hassle with the insurance ombudsman before they were forced to reinstate it.

Just thought I'd mention that in case you've spoken to them, might be worth checking!

Ps hope you get sorted with your new goodies!

My excess is in the order of ?1000 so basically unless the bill is over that there's no point with the insurance company, and I'm loathed to mention it incase they use it against me in a future renewal. Thanks though.

I'm already frightening myself with upgrade costs...

This really hacks me off. We work hard to get something nice and then some human equivalent of nut sack sweat thinks they can just take it. They all need chemical castration.

Glad you've still got you beast though.

Not a good end to your night, glad you still have the bike though.
Could have been nasty with the front brake not working. Although it's costing you to fix the bike, you're ok.

Gutted for you alex ,theres some low life scum out there and to try to steal it on a busy street , good job you had the disc lock fitted

Ffs, wankers, hate this shit, really bad feeling when this stuff happens, and it's too often. Sorry to read about this Alex, fortunately you still have your bike.

imo I wouldn't go for loads of upgrades, just going to make the bike more desirable to a scumbag as parts. The wheel, is it paint damage, if so you can get touch up kits from rsbikepaints that do a really good job. A new disc isn't the earth, so you kinda got away lightly in that respect. If you speak to your insurer about it they will note it on file regardless of a claim, which may have an effect in the future.

hope you get it all sorted bud.

Trying to get it IN to be serviced is prooving difficult. All the local BMW shops are full till beyond the end of the month and I need it ready before the 25th...

I doubt I'll do the wheels, hopefully it's not out of balance, but I would like some "better" discs if available. Brombo ORO's or something like that. I figure a fluid change and new discs would be a good start, I can look again at more gear later.

Makes me daydream about putting a honeypot bike on the street in the same place and waiting around the corner with a few mates.

Then reality hits and I realise that the tealeaves would get lots of police support after the "event".

ORO Brembo's are not a valid option. Not going for the HPK's.

Brembo OE replacements on order for just <?300 from Harris Performance
4L of engine oil (Motul 300V 5w40 Ester) ~?47 Opie Oils (OEM filter)
1L of brake fluid (Motul RBF660) ~?46 Opie Oils
Wheel will be balance checked
Chain adjusted
Labour about ?220

I'll be testing out an independent bmw specialist, lets hope they are competent.
I'll get the bike over there on Monday.

I don't understand why, particularly in London, there is no cctv on bike parking areas, that would certainly help.

They are going to check the CCTV. But they just said they're very 'cute' about CCTV they know where it is and make sure it's very hard to id them. Only way is to catch them in the act.
I was not being observant when returning to the bike. They may have still been about.
The cops were astonished it was an RR that got attacked. They said "they know these things are alarmed, immobilised and tracked, without a van it was never going to happen"

She's back from Jap & German near Bermondsey.

New OE replacement Discs (Which came in Serie ORO boxes...)
New SBS HS870 Sintered Pads
New Motul RBF660 Brake Fluid.
New Motul 300V Ester based 5w40 Oil.
New OE Oil Filter.
New scratches(?) on the fairings...hope they clean off or I'll be a tad miffed.

Police are still looking into the case, trying to get the CCTV from the Brasserie it was outside, but I'm not really bothered as it's all going to be a waste of effort.

Back to planning upgrades...

Have to agree but glad you still have the bike.
