Hey people. Just went and bought R&G radiator and oil cooler guards for my 2015 s1000rr, anyone had experience fitting these to their bike. I have side fairings off to make it easier but these guards are totally not the best as I'm struggling to see where I can tie wrap them too. Oil guard looks easier but I'm stuck with the top two on the radiator?

Should I of bought evotech ones? Lol

Thanks

I paid 35 quid for cheapo ones.. fit perfect.. if they fit they will be fine..

They are very fiddly to get in, I found the best way to thread them was to bend the tie wraps through 180 degrees first and thread through and back. You put the tie wraps around the rad and oil cooler mounting points which are lined up with the holes for them on the R&G stuff.

Aye they seem a right nightmare. Haven't done it yet but I will do, I want to get them pretty straight so I'm just building up the effort to actually do it lol. I thought they would of been a better fit but hey ho. Am needing the fairings back on so I can get out and crank her up again.

I was thinking, what about feeding the tie wraps through the actual fins of the radiator itself? Hmm?

I bought the cheap ones off a racer who sells them on ebay. They were a sod to fit as they are secured with lock wire that threaded through the fins it took me about an hour mainly due to not having room at the top rear of the radiator to tie them tight enough.Stick with it mate a bit of frustration is worth it rather than stumping up for a new rad which is a strong possibility on the shit roads in this country.

You shouldn't need to feed them through the fins. The fins are not very strong so I'd try and stick with using the mounting points.

Thanks guys, I'm away to get on it. I've got lockwire I use for motoX bike, hmm. Maybe best just stick with the tie wraps huh? Like you guys say, don't wanna fork out for new rad or oil cooler. Will maybe take some pics once fitted 👍🏻😄

The bottom mount is round the lower rad mount. I could not see any other day for the upper mounts but to feed them through the radiator matrix. The important thing is to feed them through the extreme top left and top right points so that the weight is taken by the radiator tanks, not the matrix. Thinner cable ties might help.

That's why I went with Evotech........the quality and fit is excellent

There's nothing wrong with the r&gs - evotech are just another option. Bit of a saga over simple fitting.

I took a pic of my rad with the guard off before I cleaned the rad up a few weeks ago. That's with about 5k miles / 1 year of riding, zero damage so they clearly do their job.

If you look at the top of the rad there are two mounting points above it that are facing out, thread the ties around the back of them and back through the guard. Easy peasy.
