Hi Frank. I got myself a Shoei GT just after I purchased my S1000 about this time last year. I had the Shoei Quest before that, which was comfortable, light and most important, to me, quiet. I found the GT to be just as comfortable and light but I think even quieter, though I do wear ear plugs anyway. If you look at the reviews about them I seem to think more people liked the GT than didn't. Though some said that they produced a sort of humming inside, possibly down to wind noise through the vents?? I have never experienced this myself though, when riding the S 1000 or my Yamaha FZ1 which is a more sit up ride. Another benefit with the Shoei is that the shop should offer a fitting service whereby they change the cheek pads to suit the riders face. Difficult if you buy online though!

I've got an x-spirit 3. Very comfy, only complaint I have is it is very noisy, but that is to be expected with that style of helmet. Always arai I've had before, but found the newer arai not to be as good a fit for me as the shoe.
I think if I was buying again I'd go for a gt air, as the noise from the x-spirit is quite tiring on a long run.

Depends upon your point of view on risk...with the GT air, if you go to the SHARP website and cycle through the images for impact protection then side impact is yellow instead of green. It's what made me spring for the x-spirit in the end.
