Sport Touring Tyre

My gen 3 is in need of some new rubber. It's always been sporty tyres I've had on it, k3 and power RS. Loved the K3 tyres, but never particularly liked the RS tyre.

Most of what I'm using the bike for is long runs in all weather in the north of Scotland these days, just back from 4 days doing NC500, and it has destroyed the RS, completely squared off now.

Has anybody tried the Michelin Road 6? Was reading some positive reviews on the road 5 on the forum from a few years ago, and thinking the 6 may be the tyre for me next. I still like to get a decent pace on, on the road, but really want something that will work in the cold and wet Scottish weather, and heat up quickly.

The other tyres ony list is the M9rr or the. Rosso iv... Guess these two are both sportier, but still road biased.

What are your thoughts? Is the road 6 too much of a touring tyre for spirited road riding? Any other tyres I should look at?

^that's probably a good shout, still quite nosy, wants to turn.
Have to say the Dunlop TT's have been lovely on the Gen 5...but they've not seen rain.
Conti Sport Attacks are another option.
...and of course the S23 from Bridgestone

Road 6 for really cold/wet.

I have Road 5 on mine and just ordered some Road 6. I’ve had Road 4 and 5 on my old bikes and they’ve been great. Got Road 6 on the GS and they cope well in the rain, as I found out through eastern France and the Black Forest last year.

I think I'll give the road 6 a go. Really don't think I'm doing enough fast riding to need the power 6, or s23 type tire.

M7, M9, S22, S23 worked for me. Works in all conditions.

I have the Michelin Road 5 on mine & its a good all weather touring tyre.

Always used K3s but needed something that would last longer for touring more recently.

M9RR - Noticed that the bike didn't tip in as quickly, as expected, but did a couple of track evenings and also got 3,700 miles out of them.

Power 5 - Very impressive, only tyre I could get when traveling and it was great across all conditions, I'd probably go straight to the Power 6 if i needed a new distance tyre.

I've decided on a set of road 6. My mate is going to get me a set ordered, for getting home from work.
Hopefully they are sporty enough for the occasion fast ride I get these days, and if I manage to get away for a track day, which is unlikely, I'll just have to get suitable tyres at the time.

I'm watching with interest. As well as my gen 3 I have an old TL1000S which is currently shod with Road 5s. The gen 3 is on Rosso 4s. I find the steering on the BM much heavier than the TL, which I think may be due to compound and profile. I'm getting close to needing to change the Rossos, so I'm interested to see how you get on with the Road 6s.

I run power 6 at the moment and they might give me another month or so but as the warm weather ends I’ve been mulling over my first ever set of sports touring tyres in a bid for some more mileage but don’t wanna trade too much grip. Any concerns over traction/handling so far? Is it too big a trade off or not? Interested….

I've got the tyrees, but I haven't had time to take my wheels off yet to fit them. Hopefully when I get home in 10 days time I'll get them on and get some decent weather to scrub them in

I’ve never had the power tyres but the road 5 and the new road 6 I have on seem to be doing the job. No issue with traction so far.

So I finally went to get new tyres last Saturday. My local fitter recommended M9RRs and then went off to check prices and stock. Everything was north of £330, but he said he could do a set of M7RRs for £268 fitted. Metzeler reduced their price after the 9RR was released. Guess what I went for?

Yes. Got them on last week. Not been out on them much yet though, but first impressions are very good.
It was Michelin power rs that was on the bike, which I never liked from the day I fitted them, possibly why I've not used the bike a lot the last couple of years.

I managed about 60 or 70 miles on them on cold, dry roads last weekend. Seems to be plenty grippy enough, and heat up straight away, without riding fast. They seem to give me a lot more confidence than the shite that I had on the bike! Bike feels to turn very very quickly compared to what I've been used to. I'm not one to be bothered about lean angles, but the lean angles were a good few degrees more than I'd normally see on the roads I was on, and I certainly wasn't having a very spirited ride.

One my major dislikes about the power rs's was braking, as I found the abs activating quite frequently. When I was out on Sunday, I tried braking pretty hard a few times, and it's light and day, didn't feel the abs trying to interfere at all.

I doubt I'll get out much more this year, before it goes away for the winter, but hopefully I will still like the feel of them when I get it out in the spring.

In the meantime, I might actually put a set on my 701.

Thanks. I think I was almost there in my head anyway but you might have tipped me over the edge towards fitting them for the colder months to get the mileage. I can always go back to power 6 in spring, but they really don’t last long.
