In my humble opinion, language and food define a culture. If you don't experience both you are missing out. Tomorrow my supper will not be good as I'm staying in a 'just off the motorway' hotel near Bordeaux but sometimes they can be little gems.....

What a fantastic trip and great pics too. It's something that has to be done at least once in your lifetime.
Thanks for sharing and have a good journey back.

Safe travels home. It's been a good trip to see and read about so I expect being on it has been pretty damned good! Want to do my own trip when time allows.

Morning glory. 6.45 your time and a nice 20c to start off the ride, I was on my way. An hour of twisties then motorway. 730 miles later, nearly 12 hours door to door im near Bordeaux at what had turned out to be a great little hotel.

It was glorious weather until I emerged from a tunnel near Bilbao where it was pissing down. All cleared by France.

The GS is a great bike, it hasn't broken me yet. Tomorrow is a 500+ miler to the Calais Chunnel with the ride to York to follow. I may yet be beaten lol.

My only concern is the rear tyre. Pilot Road 4 GT and the middle tread is down to the bars. I'll just ignore it.

Got home last night around 7pm, just in time to see the kids before bedtime.

The two day blast was quite painful. After Monday's efforts I was up again and on the road at 7.45 local time. The French are up early too, unlike the Portuguese and Spanish, so the roads around Bordeaux were rush hour busy. It didn't take long to get on the motorway. 3 stops for fuel, piss and a quick coffee I did the 570 odd miles in just under 7 hours to the Chunnel. Not bad considering some roadworks and the occasional 10 mile HGV overtake manoeuvre, plus the stops for the tolls. Chunnel was quick and easy. Was in a carriage with a group of bikers being led by a guided tour company. The owner, and guide, was an ex services top bloke with plenty of banter so the 30 minute trip flew past.

Back in Blighty by 3pm local time and straight on to the M25 and a few miles of stationary traffic trying to across the dartford tunnel. What a **** hole that part of the world must be to live in.

Altogether 12 hours in the saddle, 13 hours door to door, around 830 miles done. My arse aches lol. I'm not doing that again in a hurry.

Rear tyre has lasted, but it's about to go on to the banding in the next hundred miles of so, needs changing.

And wtf is going on with the weather over here? It's July, isn't it?
