I emailed my dealer I'm getting the bike from regarding fitting of this and the oil cooler guard when the bikes being pdi'd. His reply confused me. He said not a problem fitting them but if the bike overheats they'd need to see it with the guards removed. I've got a 20th anniversary blade I've had since new with 4500 miles on it and I had an 09 blade before that with 12000 miles that I put on it with the guards on them and never had an issue. I've answered him back stating this and asking if these bikes have a problem with overheating. Now , if I fit anything that's not bmw branded am I gonna have the same response? It's leaving a wee sour taste already and I've not even picked the bike up yet. Any ideas guys ?

It seems some dealers are a bit ocd about guards, vast majority don't seem to care. Some guys on here have guards fitted by the dealer. I have R&G ones, no probs. not aware of overheating issues with guards fitted on the 1st or 2nd gen, but you are buying a new model, so...dunno.

I wouldn't worry about it. Far more likely to get a hole in your radiator by not fitting guards, than overheating from fitting them.

Cheers , it's R&G I have had on my blades and am going for the same. Your right about a hole in the rad.

I looked at the evotech guard, it looks nicer than the r&g one but the fitting instructions had you taking off half the fairings to fit it! Does the r&g one look easier to fit as I can't find fitting instructions

Hi mate , you need to take off the fairings to get them fitted , the r&g ones fit with zip ties , fastened around the rad and oil mounting points

Ok thanks, the blade was 3 bolts and 5 mins!
I'll look at the evotech one again

The R&G ones don't need the fairing removing and zip tie, took me 20 minutes to fit them. The evotech use the rad bolt points so it is a bigger job. Search the forum, both of these have been fitted by members.

So which way do you fit your r&g gaurds ,fitted 2 sets on both my s100rr and they do use zip ties ,and taking the side fairings off is a easier job ,if you know off a easier way please let me know
thanks

Bear in mind I was fitting them to the hp4 carbon, so fully cf belly pan, don't know if that makes a difference against the oe belly pan. I loosened the two front fairing screws that hold the belly pan / fairing at the front (either side of the rad) just to get a little bit of play/movement, then put on the oil guard, then rad guard. Cable ties. Knuckles skinned. Simples.

hope that makes sense.
