Interesting, I would have thought the road sport tyre would have given enough grip for anyone that doesnt need to earn money from lap times, I mean, superstock use a control road tyre dont they? they seem to be able to put the power down.

If you watch or read Motovudu by Simon Crafar he recommends the use of slicks for trackdays.

It all depends on how you want to ride. Personally, since doing trackdays my riding has improved, confidence has been raised which equates to a quicker pace. It really is an increasing circle which is an individuals problem of getting off. In my case i would like something sticky 'in case' i mess up somewhere along the line and that might just save my ass

Hello,

Just taken delivery of my new (to me) S1K and have a weird rear tyre, the front is a Metzeler Racetec K1 but the rear just says Metzeler Racetec, no K1,K3 etc i cant seem to find this tyre on the interweb anywhere? has anyone seen these? Also the tyres are in good nick but i was hoping to do a few trackdays ( i was bottom inters on my zx600 so i imagine about that on this beast) are these tyres gonna be okay? Thanks in advance

Does it have Interact on the sidewall? My old K3 has 'RacetecK3' on one side only, have you looked at both sides?

The small RacetechK3 logo in white and yellow may have weathered off - likely to be a K3 methinks. Post a couple of pics - there's enough tyre spotting talent round here to identify I'm sure.

I don't think K3s are marked-only K1 and K2-because they are for track use.
Check the four digit date code-first two numbers are week, second two are year and as previously stated it should say interact on it.

I'd probably fit a pair of new K3s

Thanks for the responses fellas, i found a weathered off K2 on the rear ( strange as the tyre is pretty new), but no interact anywhere, the front is a K1 as stated and does say interact. Anyway, they are in good nick so are they gonna work for me or am i better off just taking them off and fitting something newer and better? They will have to be road legal cos i've spunked all my money on the bike so trackday slicks etc is a no go. Like i said i'm middling/bottom inters but planning on getting faster. Hopefully the new bike will help.

They will take time to warm up and are probably not the best compounds for the road at this time of year.

Interacts have been around for several years now so I would definitely check the date of the rear.

Use them,by all means, but be careful of grip levels.Sounds to me that the previous owner put any old tyre on to sell it!
