Does anyone know how to remove the front quick release axle? (not so quick in my case!)

I am trying to remove the front wheel (new tyres), have removed the right hand axle clamping bolts but now need to remove the axle itself. Does it just tap out or unscrew? The internal shape is Hex, does it require a massive allen key to unsrew it?

TIA

Steve.

yup , either get a big long nut or buy the proper tool , it just undoes ( don't forget the screws in the bottom of the fork leg need slackening)

You can buy a big hex key type thing which slots into the axle and let's you use a torque wrench on the other end of it.

P. S. Don't touch the clutch side pinch bolts!

Edit: Search for motorcycle spindle key for the handy tool.

I tried making one out of an old piece of wood, filed it down to size, spanner on the end...

You can guess how the rest went......

What size is needed? Sorry, got the R&G protectors in and it's too much hassle removing them to measure it.

Does anyone know if there such a thing as a list of screw / nut sizes for the s1 available?
