How thick is the friction material on brand new OE gen 2 front pads ? I was a little surprised to find my pads are down to 1mm after 8k road miles. I'll need some new pads soon but I'm a bit wary about the likes of SBS after the discs warped shortly after fitting some on my K6 1000.

I have EBC double sintered with Galfer wavey discs on my Gen1.
Very good braking.

Te EBC pads are also very good with the OEM discs too.
No harm to change the brake fluid when changing the pads too.

can't remember exactly but they are quite thin 4mm? and the back pad is very thick 4.5mm? have a look on google images, they are a bit weird!

Thanks for the replies. I'm looking for alternative pads that match the originals performance and wont knacker the discs.

Hi Pauly..how did pads warp your discs ?

FWIW I've used SBS Sintered on 3 bikes..RR9 Blade... C1 10R... and my HP4 so that dates back to 2010 Id guess 6 sets all told. They have been excellent on every occasion and good longevity.

I've used the HS870's without issue. Good initial bite.

I've used EBC HH on my GSXR in the past and they were fine. The OEM pads for the S1000RR are Brembo 07BB3396. I got 2 sets for about ?85 from C&W on E-bay. Price for 2 sets on Ebay seems to be around ?100 now. AFAIK these are identical to what you get from BMW dealer except the packaging is different.

Thanks again all. It may have just been coincidence the discs warped on my K6 after fitting the SBS pads, just seemed a bit odd I'd done over 20k on the original pads without issue. The brakes were a revelation on the BMW in comparison, perhaps pad life is a part of that. Is it only the Brembo pads that have a 4.5mm backing plate ?

Not sure what other pads have 4.5mm backplate -but this size required for pads to stay in the caliper down to min spec thickness.

I had 'warped' disks on my GSXR after ~12k miles, what happens is that the floating rivets seize up. The disks don't actually warp but can't float as they heat up. In principle it is possible to free them up, but I just replaced with EBC ones.

There wasn't a judder on my K6 more a slight pulsing, so perhaps it was just the discs weren't floating freely . I can't remember what SBS pads I fitted but they didn't seem any better than the standard pads.

Yes, that's what I had, pulsing when braking from speed. Braking from low speed was fine and spinning the wheel with bike at rest did not show obvious run-out or warping. I aslo tried different pads in case it was pads sticking, but all was sorted with new discs.

My dealer just called to say my front OE pads need changing :woot:...

a little disappointed with them really, they have only done 21K!

I'm gonna stick with brembo. Iv just found them to be better than everything else for longer in the pad.

Alot do great things and 2k in they fall off
