Hi guys I'm brand new on here. I'm currently looking to buy an s1000rr for the summer and to take to the tt so thought joining this forum would be a good start. :calm:

Im looking to buy a 1st gen rr so any advice on common faults would be greatly appreciated. cheers guys

Hi vinny. Welcome to the forum:). Good luck with your bike search, plenty on here will be able to help with advice on the 1st gen bike. I'd try and stretch to a 2nd gen if you can.

Welcome to the forum. Anything you specifically want your Gen 1 to have? Spec/colour?

Hi guys thanks for the warm welcome. I was looking at buying a 1st gen just to save a few pennies tbh. What are the differences between the 1st and 2nd gen bikes and is it worth spending the extra? I would prefer the motorsport colours if possible and something with below 10k miles :) Any help on choosing the right bike would be greatly appreciated. Ive just noticed this on eBay which looks good- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-S1000...b5d5047&pid=100290&rk=1&rkt=4&sd=232287102338
thoughts??

Bit of a stream of thoughts here: It looks ok. It's been on eBay a while I think. You can check the service history with Bmw if it's been done by a dealer. For a bit more I would try and get a Gen 2 bike as there are less problems and better to ride. Also I noted that this bike has aftermarket heated grips - worth checking with BMW as to the original build as if it was factory built with heated grips which were removed at some point it would suggest track use in the history.

Hi Vinny.. just read the bosses response...solid advice on the grips there... welcome aboard, all the guys on here will be happy to offer advice etc..cheers

Thanks soofsayer I will contact bmw today to find out the score with the original build. On the ad it mentions that he has fitted raised bars. Do you think the oxford heated grips are fitted to work with them bars? I messaged the guy last night and I'm able to view the bike today so is there any common problems or things I should look for?
Cheers for the welcome stuartb :)

Again, I would just ask the question about why he fitted the bars. The normal and easiest way to change the ergonomics of the bars is to fit helibars which use the originals tubes so the switchgear and grips are untouched.

Check under the sump for any signs of oil, there can be corrosion on the sump if used in winter which is a known issue with the older bikes. Check all the switchgear works correctly, again, a weak point. Listen for lots of rattles on start up from cold, cam chain tensioner... if it's just been serviced by the dealer they should be able to advise you if you give them a call about the bike. I hope it's peachy for you :).

Thanks for the info bud. I'm going to ring the guy soon so il ask him about what you've mentioned. Did you say it had been up for sale a while? Not a good thing if it has as it could be a lemon :-( fingers crossed it's a goodun :)
