If there are headlights fitted to a bike come MOT time, they HAVE to work. If you disconnect them, you WILL fail your MOT. If you tape them up, you WILL fail. If the lights are on the bike they have to work.

If you had a daylight MOT and lights are not fitted its fine. However if any sort of light is fitted, it MUST work to pass.

Been dragged through the courts a few years back due to a bobby in a panda car pulling me over and nicking me for no lights etc as I was running a day time MOT. I know this shizzle inside out...

Headlight covers are fine in the day time. Not sure why you would fit them as no one can see your lights though ;-)

totaly wrong
lights can be fitted to a bike at mot time but if they are taped over and disconected you will be issued with a daylight mot

i quote

This inspection applies to: all machines, except those which have neither front nor rear position lamps, or have such lamps permanently disconnected, painted over or masked that are · only used during daylight hours, and · not used at times of seriously reduced visibility If this situation occurs the machine presenter should be issued with a VT32 (advisory notice) recording the above

Wow, thanks for your totally accurate reply. I'm obviously a complete idiot.

Obviously being taken to court over 3 days arguing my case and looking in to the whole day light MOT thing didn't teach me a thing...

Ahh had a free VOSSA safety check when I got pulled over by the old bill, they gave me a prohibition notice on a 3 month old R1 cos of the race cans. My dealer thought I was taking the piss when I asked for a MOT! After he issued it he said I didn't have to agree to the inspection, DOH!!
