BMW HP Race Datalogger

It's certainly a worthwhile investment if you spend a lot of time on track. Once you have a good understanding of how to use the 2D/BMW HP software for analysis it's a really useful tool to help with setup.

alpha Racing

I've finally found time this weekend to fit the remaining parts from my alpha Racing and HP order which arrived late last year...

alpha Racing Magnetic Oil Sump Bolt

Whilst the bike was being serviced I've fitted a magnetic oil sump bolt. I change my oil fairly frequently given the amount of trackdays I do so this will just help keep the engine free of any metal particles that might be floating about.

alpha Racing

The next few parts took quite a bit more time to fit...

I bought one too of ebay for 6 quid inc sump plug washer.. I always use a magnetic . Ive just missed using this time as my service came before it arrived.. great add on for little money... I do 2 to 3 changes per year and I always pick swarf from it. There was a chunck of gearbox on my ZX10Rs when i done an O and F last year...lol

They are a useful part to have fitted especially as I change my oil every 3 or 4 trackdays.

alpha Racing Airbox & Valve Cover Set

Having been in contact with BMW HP Race Support earlier this year they confirmed that by having a HP Race Power Kit, Race Enabled ECU and associated HP Racing Data Release the Secondary Air System (SAS) becomes redundant. Given that it is now longer required I have removed the SAS and fitted a set of alpha Racing airbox and valve covers. The whole process took some time but given that the bike was stripped down with the fuel tank removed it was worthwhile doing. This will now ensure that whenever the bike is on the Dyno the A-F Ratio reading will be accurate. This will be particularly important if I ever opt for a HP Race Calibration Kit 3 in the future.

alpha Racing (Samco) Coolant Hoses

As part of a coolant change all the OEM hoses have now been replaced and I've fitted an alpha Racing silicone hose kit. These are made by Samco but with a little bit of added alpha Racing branding. They are lighter and stronger than the OEM hoses and from past experience they generally improve cooling performance and lower running temperature. Installation takes a bit of time as it involves removing the fuel tank and draining the cooling system completely.

BMW HP Race Brake Pads

To compliment a recent brake fluid change and caliper rebuild I've fitted new front brake pads this weekend. My previous brake pads were down to their wear limits after my last trackday so were in need of replacing. This time I've opted for a set of BMW HP Race Brake Pads. These are dual compound brake pads and are made for BMW by SBS to specifically match the OEM brake discs. By all accounts they are supposed to be very good and they should hopefully offer a good compromise between performance and price.

BMW HP Race Brake Bleed Valves

As part of my brake overhaul I've also fitted a set of HP Race Brake Bleed Valves. Made by Stahlbus they are designed in such a way to make brake bleeding and fluid changes faster and more reliable.

alpha Racing

That concludes all the parts to be fitted to my S1000RR for the time being. All that remains now is to fit my alpha Racing fairings when they arrive later this month.

Superb, lovely mods and great info.
Youre filling my head full of ideas! Can't wait to see the bike finished, will you be wrapping the fairings or painting them?

Very nice mate

Thanks for the compliment.

Impressive posts as usual mate.. knowledgeable AND rich.. whats the secret ?

Thanks. Lots of years racing and knowing what works... and more importantly what doesn't.

Thanks. As for the race fairings you will have to wait and see...

Man you've spent some coin on that. Lovely bike

Thanks. The expense is all relative as the bike gets used a lot on track and I don't intend on selling it anytime soon. Whilst I have no intention of going racing again the BMW is now at MCRCB Superstock specification which is the direction I wanted to take the bike. It's pretty much finished now, albeit I'm still awaiting delivery of my race fairings. The intent for this season is just to get out on track as much as possible.

Metzeler

I'm currently using Metzeler Racetec RR (K1, K2, K3) and Metzeler Racetec Rain (K1, K2) tyres.
