Following on from a facebook thread which has got me thinking.
"Slick mode" now im not old nor am i young , im not quick but not slow but i just cant get my head around using slick mode on the roads, i cant see the benefits and i cant see people having "race" mode being so restrictive that they have to stick it into slick.
Is it just "willy waving?"
Hp is the same in both modes ,throttle response the same also. From what i can make out its intrusive when getting "on it" whilst leaning at 50 degrees and above.
Like i say it might just be me getting on a bit but how many of you are getting the bike slowing you down in race mode on the road ?

Agreed, defeating all the rider aids you paid for seems an odd choice. Sport mode is fine on the road.

Dont get me wrong , on track its a different ball game but i just dont get it on the road. I struggle getting that light flashing in sports lwt alone race. I do put it in race when on a "brisk" run but thats because i like the throttle response but slick i see no advantages at all

I do like the Yamaha's set up for this, the dashboard is way better and the user adjust ability allows you to fine tune the modes. Not sure if the 2015 model is the same but the Yamaha system is much more user friendly (read: bright, shiny and colourful)

And so if you want ultra throttle response and max TC/ABS you can have it.

I have mine in slick most of the time, and rain if it gets manky, having said that, due to an electrical fault I rode back from SofF in rain mode as dash wasn't working and couldn't see what mode was. It was fine, but didn't quite have the usual straight line advantage over my mates R1.
The only time I've seen the TC light on was a very wet brands hatch in rain mode, when it stepped out a bit on the left hander on to short circuit back straight.
The anti wheelie seems less intrusive in slick (not that I'm any good) and I've never had TC on previous bike so not sure I need it on dry roads.
Also bit lazy to keep changing set up!
I've also got a QA throttle, full system etc and thought if you're going to have all that power it want's to be available asap - even though you don't use most of it most of the time.

2015 'user mode' is a pick and mix, dial in what you want. I usually have it dialled in for a wet track as rain is too obtrusive on wet tyres.

Slick all the time, traction control on except for wheelies, on private property.

I ride everyday rain or shine (not much shine lately)
I've a 2011 without tc
Rain is lifeless
Slick too on and off
And sport has a big hole between 5 - 7 which is where you need it the most
Race is perfect the right amount of performance everywhere even in the monsoons of late

Rain when its raining, Sport most of the time, Race when I'm having a blast on open clear roads and on the IOM.

Never tried slick. But I look just as cool in rain mode and who knows?

Getting older? You bet on it, much better than the alternative.

Ive not even put the slick key in yet jimmymac, so technically im still talking out my arse. The days of riding to impress others are long gone :02.47-tranquillity:

I can only comment about the HP4. I usually go about in race mode. Sport if I have luggage (only because I've set the suspension in sport for luggage so it's easier to swap). Rain if I'm caught in a monsoon. I have only used slick on track and there is no doubt that the bike does react and behave more aggressively and tighter than it does in race. When the guy that convinced me to try slick for the first time at a TD described it as 'the thing comes alive' he was spot on.

Haha, mines is still in the packet it came in. When my dealer handed it to me he said,"Here is your suicide pack!" LOL

Riding Modes

On the rare occasion that my bike gets used on the road I just use 'Rain' or 'Sport' modes as they are more than sufficient. As for 'Slick' and 'User' modes I only use those for trackdays.

I use slick 95% of the time the throttle feels crisper and it doesn't cut the power the second the front wheels comes off the ground.. Tbh I use my s1000 hardish(use known what I mean I know I'm not using half its potential on the road) it's good when carying the front over crests like a normal bike but then I know tc will cut when I need it. Saying that I get 1000 miles to a supercorsa sp 😂. But then I honestly fine race mode boring although it makes a cracking bang on the over run for sum reason 👌🏼

I know what you mean!!!
Last time I saw you, you were overtaking me on one wheel, with your burd on the back!
Keep it shiney side up, young ane. Any luck you'll get to my age. Lol

Have mine on user. ABS Race, DTC Slick, DDC sport, Engine race. Can set TC on the fly, usually +3 but when less than 3 degrees c up it to +5 and when wet up to +7. Had the DTC up to max in the wet on more than 1 occasion. Allows you to have full power all the time and let the electronics deal with it
