Is the air filter the same for gen 1, 2 and 3?

As far as I'm aware the air filter is the same for all model years.

Does anyone swap out the OEM for a MWR foam filter or K&N after market filter for road / track use?

Air Filter

I have an alpha Racing (BMC) air filter fitted on my track only bike and it made very little difference in terms of performance. The main benefit is that it can be cleaned and re-used. If I still used my bike on the road I would most likely stick with the OEM air filter.

K&N all the way. BMW recommend changing the OEM every service. Costs the same as a K&N that you clean and replace. No brainer really!
