Unattached Pipe

Was about to put the fairing back on and noticed a pipe which isn't connected to anything. It's the top section of a Y connector, think it's part of the tank breather but not sure. Can anyone clarify if this is supposed to be free? Seems a bit strange as the bottom pipe is open because that's the end of the breather, why have two open ends?

Edit.. Balls, mean't to attach an image but it won't let me. It's on the left hand side just under the header valve servo.

I think you'll find it's for a canister(emissions)on US bikes.
