So it's in my head again. I was up half the night scouring Auto trader/Gumtree for a useful machine circa 3 to 4k maybe 5k but that's my top whack.

Nothing much on Auto trader, loads of choice on Gumtree.. shortlisted a few...2001 R1 for ?2900 looked nice and 2004 gixxer thou ?3900.. called the guys and went to see both in Paisley area today..what is it with people ? if anyone is coming to see my bikes and I have sold loads privately in the past, I would at least have the bike looking pretty and very clean irrespective of year/model etc.

Both of these but in particular the gixxer was just filthy and absolutely hadn't been looked after at all, really scabby bike. The R1 was rough as a badgers...broken rear cowling, glued together carbon fibre parts...just crap.. Thanks them both and told them that I wasn't interested within a few minutes...I'm not there to be friends and pussy foot about..so I say it as I see it.

I know 3k isn't a lot of money but I've sold loads of 3k bikes and less and mine were all well looked after and maintained and mint appearance. Guess either some folk haven't a clue or just don't care..

The quest continues..

Just sold my K5 1000 Road/Track bike for ?3.5k. Ok it was a Cat C but 17.5k miles, full Yoshi ss system, K-Tech and more goodies. Loved that bike
Looks like I'm stuck with the Hp4 now 😊

I wouldn't bother with the 2001 R1 Stuart, it's a carb'd model, anything from 2002 onwards but an 04 would be a good starting point.

GSXR 1000 K5 would be a cracking choice too!

k6 k7 750 or a nice k5 k6 1000 is best bang for the money your looking at. you might also get a cheap 08 fireblade.

Heh... stu you're not alone, I keep looking at R6's just because they force you to learn how to maintain corner speed!

Just cant shake it out my head.. I wouldnt discount a 600 but maybe a bit busy on the gearbox for me Alex. Theres a lot to learn with any machine I suppose.

Carbs it was Mick..he then went on to tell me the original motor blew up and some geezer had stuck a S.H plant in there before he bought it... I was over in Paisley anyway so couldnt be arsed telling him that sort of info should be declared before anyone wastes their time viewing..

I have a few mates that race, will give them a shout as they usually know whats kicking about, you want a 600 or a 1000 ???
Hi mate.. 750/thou... 600 id get tired of quickly I think.. think id miss the extra grunt. Ive had litre bikes since 1988 so its what im used too.

I really like the idea of a second machine for track use... good to have a project over the winter get it ready for next spring. The way the weather is here I think weve had our summer...

Worst time to buy a bike at the moment Stuart, why don't you hang on to the end of the season and get something worth having for your budget, I bought a very tidy, low mileage '04 CBR1000RR for ?3k in Nov 2013 (kept it for 4 months and bought an S1K!) so there will be bargains to be had.

If yesterday was anything to go by Mac your probably right
..them geezers werent trying very hard...as a side issue, Gumtree must specialise in adverts from people that cant spell. "Breaks"... New Break pads lol. Think I saw that in two different ads.
