Afternoon all, Managed an hour out on the bike yesterday which seems to be a rare thing recently...(cant wait for Moffat) I had a couple of instances on the run out where the quickshifter had a big delay between shifts... no particular gear and no particular speeds. I tried forcing it up through the shifts after it did it the first time as i wondered if i'd maybe found a bit of a false neutral but it did it several times. Got home and checked the quickshifter and seemed to have a bit of play in it, is that normal or should it be nipped up tight.? cheers in advance

You can sometimes get hesitation between upshifts, I get it sometimes. Worth checking your chain is correctly adjusted as that can effect it.

No, nothing to do with throttle openings. You are entirely correct, the shifter is completely useless at low revs. I once had a GSXR1000 K8 with a Translogic shifter which was fantastic at any revs. The BMW system was a complete shock to me tbh, which is complete and utter rubbish at low revs. However, once the revs reach the attic so to speak, it is the complete nut's. I believe BMW intended it lived on the track and not at everyday road speeds i'm afraid.

Iain i'm the same on mine...upshift only as it's its an HP4... throttles got to be wide really...about the town or lower speeds I just use my clutch....I use my clutch a lot at high speeds too...I like feeding it in manually...old school....

But mine works best going hard with the throttle cracked open

Quickshifter

The quickshifter works exceptionally well at higher revs where it's designed to be used.

I will check the tension in the chain, its the gen 1 so i dont have auto blipper. What you guys have said is correct, its not the best at low revs/speeds. It happened once or twice when i had the throttle wide open, like i said its not at any particular gear or speed. Guess i'll check the chain then keep my eye on it.

I've had mine fail to work at high rpm on the back straight of Snetterton...leading me to headbutt the screen as I slam into the revlimiter.

Alex, i was overtaking a car when it happened to me. Shat my pants and like you say it flung me fwd haha

:)

I may get the IRC in due course (can't afford a proshift). It does it enough to fill me with doubt and lead to early up-shifts (well that's my excuse, that and noise metering and...)

Fitted an HM shifter on my '10, Tried all manner of variations on set up with sensitivity and kill time (including set up by HM) but was never really satisfied. Replaced with original when I sold it and wondered why I ever changed. The BMW gearbox in my opinion is ***** compared with the Japanese bikes (the only thing I don't like) and a QS will not make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.... My '15 shifter is much better, I believe it's because it's sprung loaded so not 'direct' pressure on changing gear i.e. you load the spring up so it engages gear when the cut delay is adequate bringing about the slight delay. It ALWAYS shifts better if I roll the throttle a gnats (1mm?) Downshifting is AWESOME !! Can't believe that BMW 'still' produce a 'box like this, think they will lose a few riders to Suzuki/Honda soon when they're released as they have to Kwickasfuki and the R1.
Regarding the screen head-butting, I've done it a couple of times but it's when I've touched the lever by mistake just enough to kill the engine but not enough to change gear
