Morning everyone.. I'm a newbie to the BMW and bike is comin this week ! Was wondering if any of you have fitted rad and oil cooler guards ? Was talking to the guy in the shop who sold me the bike and they don't recommend fitting them...... Also any ideas on swing arm bobbins!?! Sorry if this has been asked before. Thanks
Dave

Re: Guards..

I think most people do actually fit them, I put them on any bike I own now as one of the first things I add, nothing worse than a stone through a radiator and it is one of the more common things that can ruin a day out on the bike.

I guess most places that don't recommend them put it down to it potentially raising the operating temperature of the bike but in truth I haven't noticed mine go up :)

The Evotech kit tends to the favourite due to its build and finish and i've no regrets whatsoever about fitting mine.

As for swingarm bobbins, most tend to go for R&G or if you are feeling flush the Lightech chain adjusters and lifters but that means potentially making a change to the paddock stand too.

You won't go wrong with R&G though :)

Re: Guards..

Nice one thanks..... I've always had them on my fireblades without a problem it's just the first time I've been told not to ! And yes I like the evotech

Re: Guards..

Agree with Mick, I've had Evotech rad and oil cooler guards on my bike for nearly a year now, no issues what so ever, a no brainer purchase really. I also have R&G bobbins fitted to mine which, at least for my paddock stand, have a shape that's works better than the Evotech ones I initially fitted.

Re: Guards..

Excellent thanks Mick753 & MacRR.... mind made up will order today !

Re: Guards..

I don't think you can go wrong with EvoTech or R&G. There's some eBay ?35 jobbies too that someone on the forum vouched for.
Hell, it's only fancy chicken wire :D

I bought the EvoTech.

Re: Guards..

I've fitted r&g bobbins as for the rad guards I've been commuting everyday for 25 years on all sorts of bikes and have never had any rad damage
- maybe I've just been lucky

Re: Guards..

Trouble is I've a mate who rides straight through the crap on the road... All my bikes have been chipped down to him !!

Re: Guards..

I was looking at those on ebay
He sells them to fund his racing
If I do buy one I'll buy one off him

Re: Guards..

Thank's guy's just going through the site and saw this thread checked out the link and bought the rad and cooler guards.Plus done my bit to support a bike racer happy days.

Re: Guards..

EvoTech take more fitting - believe that panels have to come off.
R&G can be fitted in place using tie-wraps.
eBay racer - no idea.

Re: Guards..

The one from eBay can be fit without removing fairings but it's really fiddly, I removed just the side fairings to get access to rear of rad, still a fiddly job though.

Re: Guards..

I've recently acquired a set of COX Racing rad/oil cooler guards. They're a little lower profile than the Evotech and the like and they provide a great level of protection. I've had them on every bike I've owned. Great product.

Re: Guards..

The racer on ebay has a video link to youtube I've watched it and you don't have to remove any bodywork

Re: Guards..

I just received some of the eBay racer ones. He goes by Racing Radiator Guards on Facebook, really friendly guy. Haven't fitted them yet will send pics when I do.
