M7rr's on track?

Hi, I have been using the metzler interact rr tyres on track and road, but now thinking of going for the m7rr's for winter road riding. But, i've got the new tyres booked in for fitting a day before a trackday at brands! Will they be ok for track use?? At the moment i'm getting round there in about 55 seconds, but not sure if the m7rr's will spit me off at that pace? Also getting 53 degrees on the interact's...what will the m7's deliver! Anyone who may know, advice thoughts appreciated..

I've used M7RR's on track on a less powerful bike. They were OK, for road tyres, but that's what they are.

Are you using tyre warmers?

At least you'll have more life and uk / wet use then track tyres with the M7RR's !

The K3's are good, but they don't last long and seem to tear on track :-( 53 deg on them seems alot tho is there more???

I think the best solution would be a spare set of wheels and swap between road and track!

Metzeler

The old Metzeler Interacts, and to a lesser extent the new Racetec RRs, are pressure sensitive tyres especially when track conditions are either very hot, very cold, or if you are using the wrong compound. They have recommended front/rear pressure ranges for track use and if you fall outside of these ranges the tyre is susceptible to both hot and cold tearing.

I've used M7RR's on track although not to 53 deg, they were fine but I found they started to move around a bit as the day went on. As you've said they're a road tyre so they'll do the job on track but ultimately won't be as effective as a track focused tyre. Why don't you try them before you start spending money and then you can decide for yourself.

Yes the metzler's are very temp sensitive, I've been using 31 f which seems fine, but the rear i've got down to 27 and I think even lower would be better on a warm day. What's the lower limit on the guidance notes?

Bridgestone S21's are the latest and greatest do it all tyre, might be worth trying those as reports suggest they are excellent on track..

Will investigate the s21's. I'm leaning now towards another set of k3's and treading carefully through winter now.

I have been using m7rr tyres on my hp4 since they came on the market. I do a handful of trackdays with them each year. I can achieve respectable lap times with them, but they are not a semi slick soft tyre so you will loose a little traction compared to the k3s. I did a trackday on a loan bike with k3 road compound tyres earlier this year and they give more feel and grip, no doubt there. Having said that, the m7rrs have never let me down. I used to get the movement Mac is describing after a few hot laps which has always been my only criticism of the tyres, but at Donington in September the tyre guy put my pressures at 32f 30r and the tyres were perfect all day.

For one last trackday and then winter riding I would say the m7rrs are a good choice.

Thanks, right I'll give those a go instead of the m7's. Seems like a good compromise. I'll let you know how i get on.

I'd echo that, I didn't have the luxury of tyre warmers when I used a set of M7RR's on the track either and despite having to tip toe a bit for the first few laps having run 32f and 30r for road tyres they were absolutely fine on the track and I don't think I would have got more than a couple of seconds more out of having run a set of cut slick with warmers if i am honest.

At this time of the year and for the sake of one more trackday before doing some road riding they'll work well enough

I agree, it's just not that confidence inspiring going back down the grip scale from trackish rubber to road! But, I just can't justify yet another metzler that I know will be well worn and will then have to take me through winter. I don't mind if the m7's / s21 ain't quite as good, it's just that I don't want to find that out AFTER a tumble in the kitty litter. I'll have to build that confidence up steadily and see if I can feel what's going on.... The k3's have been very very reassuring. I'm one step away from getting spare wheels, slicks, and a trailer then I can have my cake and eat it. Probably work out cheaper in the long run too.
This is a ridiculous hobby - it's highly addictive and very expensive!

Ive always loved the dunlop 212 gp pros and when i got the beamer i went with the dunlop sportsmart 2s for the road.
Both tyres inspire a lot of confidence
