Last week my quick-shifter started to behave erratically, after 5-10 minutes of my commute it would stop working for up shifts, and then intermittently for down shifts.
I booked it in to my BMW dealer (Vines) to take a look at, and on the way there it worked fine and I was thinking "bloody typical, the day I take it in it all works fine"... but luckily a couple miles from the dealership it gave up again.

They spent a few days trying to get to the bottom of the issue (the cruise control worked fine, so the clutch leaver switches should be ok).
The switches were replaced anyway, but no luck. Eventually their best guess was the quick-shifter actuator, so they changed the quick shifter, re-calibrated and everything worked.
At the same time they applied a number of updates.

The weird thing is that the quick-shifter is now crazy smooth... it's like a hot knife through butter!

Quickshifter

My quickshifter became smoother once the bike had been updated and it seems to work even better when the gearshift pattern is reversed for trackdays.

My shifter gets better the higher the RPM but unbelievably clunkey at low revs. My Suzuki with a Translogic was silky smooth. When did you guy's have the update done? No mention at my 1st service in April of the update.

Quickshifter

My bike was updated the last time I visited my dealership. They offered to plug the bike into their diagnostic system to check if any software updates were required. Since then the quickshifter has been much smoother; but I have noticed it works better when the gearshift pattern is reversed and when shifting at higher revs.

After speaking to the dealer, it sounds like I'll need a new ECU :livid:
Hopefully I'll get it booked in tomorrow... two days on a F800GT re-enforced what wonder bike we all are lucky enough to own.

Hey Kipper, it must have felt as though you went from a quick shifter to a column shift jumping on that bike.

Hope you get it sorted out soon.

New ECU? I assume they've ruled out the QS part first by fitting a different physical unit?

Yeah, they replaced the clutch lever and switches, and the Quick Shifter.... it worked fine for about 50-60 miles and then went again.
Not heard back from them yet today (as promised), so they'll be getting an impatient call tomorrow.

Got my RR back on Thursday, seems to be OK, but I'll give it a week before declaring victory!

In the end it was a couple of frayed wires, under the tank. They seemed stretched, so Vines have raised this with BMW.

Fingers crossed!

I've not heard of this software update?
whats it about what years does it affect
sorry for high jacking post but just concerned lol
